I don't know how I did but I messed something up and now have neither, I tested it all and nothing worked and even changed the polarity of the led's just to check.
So I followed this write up: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/1898180-post158.html
first thing I did was switch the 2 wires (here's the pic of them switched, solid on the middle and the black stripe on the right
    image_9a6f5eacad96a3abb7ab81d556d229d59f46a9f1.jpg

am I supposed to do that on the dome light's end too? I didn't but it doesn't seem as though that would matter, but here's the plug at the dome light end
    image-1_99886b70d5c7a2f8ab83260826cb4f5d8457b1c3.jpg

here's a pic of my dome light and you can see my diode just above it (it's covered in shrink wrap though)
    image-2_8f21b5a7a76aff7cbdfac28c3edc789e3bd82553.jpg

here's where I attached to ground, the diode is in the shrink wrap but the diode in the bag is the exact direction I put it in.
    image-3_4c0bf05ec2f40d09e72d615331e12f9025cf2f60.jpg

here's the wire that should be taking the power to the diode and then into the map lights but doesn't.
    image-4_6917bcdf6f3fd9ad678a6969e0d8c20076b1e01f.jpg

My only though is that I'm connecting to the ground instead of the power so maybe I do have to switch the two wires in the dome side or put my little tap in on the other side, but I don't even know if that'll make the difference. Either way shouldn't the dome light work regardless? Right now the dome light doesn't go on, and obviously the map lights won't either. Anyone able to tell me where I went wrong and what I can do to fix it?

    Thanks,
    -Robby

did the same mod on my 08. I think I had the same issue as you where it couldn't turn on. I think the problem was that the diode wasn't in contact with the gold plate for the ground.

If you read towards the end of that thread you will see that you do not even need the diode. I did mine along time ago (3 + years ago) and never used the diode and has been fine. If you plan to keep the diode though make sure you have it hooked up the right way. If its backwards it wont work.

if I don't use the diode won't the dome light turn on when I turn the map lights on? And if I don't use the diode, I still need a wire to go to the ground on the map lights right? I'm just kind of confused as to why even without the diode and stuff, why my dome light doesn't turn on at least, or why my map lights don't turn on on their own when I just turn them on.

I just tried to switch my wire back, and basically undo everything I did, and I still have no lights, map or dome, what the hell did I do and how can I fix it?

I'm assuming that as well because my clock was out on my way to work just now, I'll check them all when I'm off

got the chance to check the fuse, and it was blown, replaced it with a 10amp instead of a 7.5 because I happened to have an extra 10 amp. Put it in and the lights worked, but the mod did not. I couldn't get the map lights to turn on with the dome lights, they turn on separately but not with the dome. Then I fiddled around and did something and blew the 10amp fuse, so I have to wait until morning to go get more fuses, but does anybody know 1) what I'm doing to blow the fuses and 2) how to get it working? I tried swapping the wire on my dome light (the last picture) from the one spot to the other, but didn't get to test it as that blew the fuse.

Did you turn your LEDs around? The LEDs are polarity sensitive.

The lights themselves work, but as normal map lights, they don't come on when the dome comes on

took mines down to look at it. same exact mod, and followed same write up. works before i took it down, and after I reinstalled it. I'm thinking it might be your connection points? I did the same thing you did with that diode by using a nut and screw. make sure the tip of that diode is directly in contact with that gold plate.
