Did you see my post above? Find the white w/red stripe wire in your factory harness and tap into it with a piece of scrap wire, then connect it to the ground wire on the remote. Looks like you bailed on it, but it sounds like you were close!

So, I am not that savvy when it comes to this stuff. I'm trying. I got the Axxess ASWC and the Metra 70-8114 wiring harness. I hooked it up in 10 minutes, Red to power wire, black to ground wire, plugged it in, some lights blinked. Problem 1) On the Tacoma SWC, did you guys only have 3 wires in that harness? Am I missing some?
    2) Where does the 3.5mm jack plug into on a Pioneer Avic Z1?
I feel like this is such a simple task.

Any help or advice would be appreciated! I unfortunately need my hand held sometimes.

You should just be able to plug that in... Did you buy the deck used? Someone may have cut off the jack.

It came with the taco when I bought it. I contacted metra. By say the z1 isn't compatable with the ASWC. Oh well

Problem solved! I installed a new head unit this weekend. Hooking up the ASCW took all of 5 minutes. It programmed itself and works perfectly. 1st time in 5 vehicles I've had steering wheel controls, I like it already!
Thanks for the help before, it made this setup easier!

    Thanks RI Tacoma!!!

I dont even know where the steering wheel interface harness is. Is it attached to the stock radio and if it is, which one is it?

The back of my new HU does not have a 3.5m jack .. Well, it does.. But it's intended for the bluetooth mic which I need to make calls with. Where do I plug it into?? :goingcrazy:

Maybe a splitter would work. 2 3.5m jacks into one.

Use it to prop a door open. It is worthless.

ok so i installed a kenwood ddx770 in my car with bluetooth, usb, parking brake bypass...etc but i had a problem with the aswc. i bought the 8114 harness which makes it plug and play. i connected power, ground, and 3.5 to blue yellow steering remote wire on HU. light goes red and apparently is programmed automatically but still can not control the radio with steering wheel buttons. i tried to manually program and it seems the aswc recognizes my volume up and down because the lights will change colors and blink but still no luck. Don't know what else to do. spent over an hour trying to reprogram it and can't figure out what to do. anyone out there install this with a kenwood? do i need to program with the 12k resistor? please help. thanks
