You all wonder it, so I'm just gonna go out there and ask it...

Does anybody know of or has anybody actually done some kind of mod/hack so they can control at will (through a switch or whatever) the rear view camera?

I'd love to be able to rig it to a button and engage it anytime I'd like and not just when in reverse.

I'm thinking about building a small trailer and I love to just pop on the camera to make sure my junk hasn't flown out as I'm driving.

I know, laugh, roll, call me crazy, then answer as you all deep down inside wonder the same thing.... :D

Find a wiring diagram. Whatever wire sends voltage or remote turn on signal to the cam from reverse, cut it and pick it up off something constant and switch it. Obviously my 01 dosent have it but it would be simple to do.

Just duct tape a kid to the tail gate and give him an air horn to use if anything flies out. (ahhh the childhood memories lol)

Well, does anybody know if there is a Haynes Manual for a 2010? All of the manuals online and in the stores here are 2005-2009...

Not sure if there is any difference at all... but i need one anyway. If I find the diagram, I will dig in and connect the camera to the switch.

If I am successfully, I will have to make it a write up.

I know you can hook it up to an aftermarket head unit, Most likely it is possible. There is a line that goes to your Transmission reverse wire and when you put in in (R) the wire is grounded out which activates the monitor, an inline switch connected to the body ground should theoretically activate the monitor and override the normal operation till you close the switch.

Just one thing to watch, I'm not sure if they switch on by a remote turn on switch (just a couple of volts, like an amp), or if it actually sends the 12v back to it. Just check your voltage and find a tap accordingly. Didnt see ur link josh, nice.

Great mod. First time I tried this the toggle in one position allowed me to see the camera while in reverse, then the toggle in the second position turned the camera off while in reverse. Culprit was a bad tap connection. Now it works perfect. Only thing I did different was mount the switch on the side to hide it a bit more. I also painted the silver switch black to blend in. image.jpg
