Power Gate anyone?

anyone have experience with the power gate isolater?

This simplicity is appealing to me

 

Why do you need the isolator?
The only thing it's preventing is you draining your main starting battery while still using your accessories (compressor, winch, stereo, lights, etc) with the car off.

Right, but what is your purpose for running two batteries? Did you need more power? Or did you not want to drain the starting batt?

 

ohh sorry, yeah going to power all acc off 2nd bat... use 1 for starting and winch only

 

Perfect then. There seem to be a lot of programmable options on the Powergate, but a simple relay/solenoid would do the job too.
Even an R/V isolator would work.

 

do you reccomend any? i dont know a lot about this shit.. just want a solid dual battery set up.. I will be running a ST 12 circuit fuse box

so how did you fit all that shit on the battery terminals?

 

There's a Blue isolator that Checker sells that will let you charge both batteries without drawing from both of them.
Also, something I've been contemplating on getting is the Blue Sea fuse box:

Waterproof, several sizes, etc etc.
Once you get that, run one line from the positive battery terminal and on from the negative to the new fuse box. Run the accessories out of the fuse box.

Edit, the isolator is made by a company called Sure Power. Warn makes a couple too.. but they're three times as expensive.

 

silverback, you have so many parts in there that i hate to ask you to list, but what do you say about assembling me a kit and selling to me?

 

I realize this is an old thread . . . but just FYI. I purchased a 200 amp single rectifier (Isolater) from Perfect Switch LLC, the maker of the Power Gate battery isolaters seen here: http://www.perfectswitch.com/ I had 2 of these fail after about a year each. The good news is that Scott Stolper at perfectswitch.com is excellent with his customer service and is replacing the 2nd failed unit as well. The bad news is: 2 failed units.
