On the Northside of Atlanta there are several wealthly suburbs and about once a year a kid will get killed and/or injured in a high powered car accident.

This accident happened a day ago in Alpharetta, GA. According to the news, the Ferrari F-430 was a birthday gift for the 18 or 19 y/o.

These kids were badly burned but are still alive --> http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...end-near-death-car-crashes-bursts-flames.html

its all relative. When I was in hs a girl in an s-10 rolled her truck and died while there were kids with a TT supra and a 93 RX-7 that never got in any trouble no speeding tickets or anything.

You could get killed in anything but remembering how i drove when I first got my license I would have probably killed myself in a fast car. No way I'd give my kid a Ferrari if I had that kind of money. I don't really remember anyone she. I was in high school really having anything really fast except for my senior year when my one buddy bought a brand new 2002 Camaro SS.

Hell the only close call I ever had was with the 99 Grand Am GT I had my senior year which is the slowest vehicle I've owned.

I'm sorry but giving an 18 yr old a Ferrari 430 for his birthday is boarderline retarded... I agree that you can get killed in anything but a high performance car like that likes to be pushed and you don't realize you've pushed too far until it's too late. Lower end cars feel unstable usually long before they actually become unstable.

When I was 17 I built a 94 Lexus sc that was boosted. Made 600 at the wheels and never got into any trouble with it. But those kids who get handed stuff think there invincible because of money.

Fact. I have friends who are given what ever they want. They treat it like shit. I bought my first truck. ( my tacoma) Its my baby and i would never do something stupid to endanger it.

When you earn it you have a different attitude then if you are just given it.

    pretty sure the point is...

one who earns their possessions generally has a greater sense of responsibility toward the possession...in this case a car, than one who is gifted the possession.

also, stastics are clear on the issue of automobile accidents and young drivers.

this doesn't mean there are no young drivers who are excellent. It also doesn't mean every young person gifted a new car is irresponsible with it.

However, the OP story (and simular others) raise the larger question: why do some parents buy young drivers. expensive, fast, exotic cars to begin with. Maybe it has more to do with the mindset of the one buying the car than the one gifted with it.

I'd have to agree with this. Then again, at ANY age I think you appreciate things more that you've earned/built more than things given to you.
