    Please enjoy:

I just wanted to give a good look at what an Escort Passport 9600ix with the mirror install kit looks like on a Tacoma. I was tired of the suction cups on my windshield and the cord draped over my radio. I hope this thread isn't redundant, but I couldnt find any with this kit from Escort and I couldn't find anything that told you what wires you should use for power and ground. I have the Gentex Homelink mirror in my truck, so if you don't your wiring may be different.

In the 2012 with this mirror, your ignition wire/power is the black wire and the ground is the white wire.

Here is the kit. A little pricey, but the materials, especially the bracket, are top quality:

    Bracket:

Power wire, with a fuse built in:

    Comes with everything you need:

First I took off the plastic wire covers. They easily pop off:

    Wire covers popped off:

There is one more wire cover on the movable shaft of the mirror. This one wont fit after the installation:

You will need a torx tool to remove the set screw:

    Torx:

I took mine all the way off to make it easier, however make sure you have a small torx tool to tighten the mirror back after the bracket is in place. You could leave the bracket loose and tighten the set screw for the mirror first, but I felt like it would be easier my way and i could get the bracket in perfect alignment:

After the mirror is off you will need something to pull the tab up on the wire harness to remove it from the mirror:

The best part about this is that you don't need to splice into your factory wires. On the harness (the one on the mirror) you will take the power and ground wire and push them into the correct slot. Don't force it, there is four corners to each wire hole. One of those will let the wire slide in for a nice tight fit. And remember, you will place the power wire in the black wire slot and the ground in the white wire slot:

    Wires in the slots:

    Wires in the slots:

I used a little electrical tape, nice and tight, so the wires wouldn't pull out:

I also used one of the little zip ties that came with the kit. I paced this one towards the mirror end of the movable shaft. It helps keep a tight look to the wiring:

Now I put the wire harness back in place on the mirror and put the bracket on the mirror. I tightened the bracket up towards the mirror end of the movable end of the shaft so it would give the radar enough clearance:

    Another shot of above:

I put one of the wire covers back on before I put the mirror back up:

    Another shot of above:

Then you just put the mirror back up, screw your set screw in, plug the male wire harness into the mirrors wire harness and place the other plastic wire cover back on. I of course moved the mirror around to place the radar just right and at the end, gave my bracket a finally tightening to make sure everything would stay the way I wanted it:

And one more with my eye looking crazy:

    Thanks!

Pretty nice but you could have built your own bracket for a few bucks and saved yourself a fair bit of money that would have accomplished the same thing. Details in my sig.

Gary...nice work, and thank you...this is a must have, as more municipalites are counting on tickets to redistribute your money. Now, another must have [imho] is a front camera that records your driving...for the first ten or so minutes,on a loop or so, that allows play back on the spot in case of an accident. I know escort is a top quality product, and investigating a top quality camera.....hint, hint maybe thats your next write up?

I did see yours after i found the 'whats hanging from your mirror' thread... AFTER i bought this kit. :) I thought about making something, but just decided to give the kit a try. i like the wire fuse built in and that you dont have to cut into your existing wire. Thanks!

I appreciate it! Thats a good idea... This radar detector has saved me from so many tickets. I read a cops post on here that if the radar is already going off he has you, but that just isnt true. of course i hope he keeps thinking that. its not that im some blatant speeder, but i am not a fan of roving tax collectors. sometimes you just dont realize you are doing 35 in a 30... its a great reminder to slow down and has saved me from so many speed/tax traps.

That's understandable. I wired mine into the fuse box because I like to use the remote mute button anyway but if you don't the best bet is to wire it in up there. I spliced my wires already to add homelink so I'm not too worried about that. I'm sure the quality of your bracket is better so it's not like you wasted your money.

yes, i am planning to do a front mount camera. it will be useful for offroading, being able to see what you are going over, not to mention parking. that would have come in handy a couple of times.

    thanks!

As much as I love my Passport(battery-powered), I would not want it hanging off the mirror. Way too obvious! I stick mine on the lower left corner of my windshield for more discretion. Can't see it too well from inside another car.

discretion from who? is it illegal in your state? if you put it in the corner or low, it will not have good coverage. also, if you are worried about it when you park, you can easily pop it off the mount.

yes it is. you are good to go as long as a rock doesnt pop it. I couldnt do that with mine, because it uses gps to let me know where red light cameras are and to keep track of false hits. the gps sensor is on top of the unit.

Ha, I opened this thread thinking "what kind of radar, parking radar sensors, cruise cancel/collision avoidance radar...?"
