I didn't read through all these posts and I just came across this thread. To answer the OP....The US military can NOT intervene in police work. Back when the DC snipes were cruising around, they wanted to get military survelieance plans to try and locate teh mfers. The ACLU got involved protesting that move saying it was unconstitutional. We dont really like the idea of the military cruising around encforcing laws on the people.

But yeah the war on drugs is a huge failure and waste. Im not sure what teh answers to that one are. Some say legalize it, but then you just have a bunch of crackheads everywhere.

I love all the people giving me bad per for this post. You guys need to reevaluate your thinking on the subject and get into the conversation if you think differently. Leaving me goofy comments will do nothing to change my views.

How is your only answer socialism? Can't we just refine the current drug laws? Most of them are very outdated and founded on misleading or down right incorrect science from decades ago.

I am not for decriminalization of any/all drugs. I do not think 1 out of 8 government employees needs to be a prison/jail guard. I think our tax dollars could be spent in a much more positive way then to have the US be the gulag nation of the 21st century.

There are fundamental reason the US imprisons more people then any other country some of which I believe are racism and the private sector's need to make money off of jailing the population.

I do appreciate you being civil in this "debate". Conversation is always best when neither party involved is slinging crap on each other.

I don't know about it being racism, but it is sure as hell all about money. IMO it would be pretty easy to stop it from coming in, and money going out, but that money makes it to the right hands. It's a shame, how easy it is to go to a certain few neighborhoods, drive up to a corner and get whatever you want. Not only because of what I did as a job, I have a drug addict sister, and its fucking pathetic, this "war on drugs". I know some of the behind the scenes, and I was sickened by it. One of the reasons it was easier to walk away after 15 years from my job. It's all money money money. Fucking greedy assholes!

Socialism is the only government type that has true, unprejudiced social equality, in theory at least.

I truly believe this is a social issue, and it just so happens that minorities are targeted. When these laws are put on the books, the people that lobby for them care about one thing, and one thing alone, money. They want to have low-skill, low-income workers so that profits can be put into other areas. So, when they push for laws, they are looking at what makes them the most money, not what puts more black people behind bars. Having the lower-income workers get worse criminal records works for them because these workers cant move up, and it's a guaranteed life-long low-income laborer, since many businesses will not hire felons. As cruel and cold as this is going to sound, a capitalist society requires a large force of lower-income laborers in order to function, so keeping the bottom at the bottom is out of necessity, and probably some greed, more than malicious intent. Fortunately, we have a system that allows anyone to move up, regardless of race or gender, so long as you play by the rules and you have the motivation to truly do better and be better.

My main argument that these laws being construed as racist is a matter of coincidence over specifically targeting a race of people. Other social issues have put minorities into the lower class, and that is where we should be looking to make changes, not necessarily laws that, in their wording, are not unfair nor unconstitutional.

And if we do want to fight drugs, it should be by enforcing our borders much better and by giving more aid to agencies like the DEA.

Ya, I had heard Canada had a pretty bad drug problem... Unless thats not true why don't you ask why Canada isn't doing more to stop this?

Little thing called a Constitution and the Posse Comitatus law. That, and could you really see OUR Congress authorizing invading Mexico? They (Mexican Gov't, such as it is) will NEVER sanction US troops being in-country to fight the Cartels.
