They are also no afternoon sprinkle tires either. I recall taking off slowly and having the rear tire slip when turning after the roads were wet.

Sell 100,000 Tacomas per year and a $50 per tire savings is about $20 million. It lines their suit pockets!

    Dunflops!

No kidding, a 2WD of any vehicle type with winter tires is better in the snow than summer tires on the most sophisticated 4WD system you can come up with. Summer tire rubber effectively turns into slate in freezing temperatures.

Four wheel drive does NOT help you stop! It just evens out the brake bias so the fronts don't lock before the rears bite (w/o a center diff of course).

Those terrible dunlops I mentioned on the Fit? I never got stuck because I could ALWAYS get it to move. I once made it through a snowdrift that was just above the upper grille and a good 50' long, and I did it at very low speed. That car had 4" of ground clearance, no limited slip, no fancy traction control. They just wouldn't stop the car once it got going.

Cheapest tires I think would go to the off-brand all seasons I put on my first Honda. $165 mounted and balanced. They worked marginally better in the rain than the dunflops, though that's only because the dunflops have never hydroplaned on me.

Jason I must say you're completely wrong on this entire post. You know nothing about why OE tires are selected. Also, snow tires on a 2wd vehicle will outperform a AWD vehicle with summer tires any day of the week.

Well you got one thing right, the silent armors are awesome, but you didn't need a 10 ply tire on a compact truck.

I'm surprised I haven't had a puncture. I wheeled these tires hard, and they are pretty useless off road, had to push the truck harder because the traction sucked. Heinsight ... I should have replaced them from the beginning... Live and learn.

This thread is rediculous. Lets argue about the shittiest thing on our trucks! Granted, people bitch about the rugged trails also and if it wasn't that it would be something else.

They're cheap tires, but so are most stock tires. Of course someone upstairs at Toyota is looking at the cost of tires and everything else. Cutting costs is essential to stay in business, right?

I guess I don't understand why there's an arguement here. To meet the needs and desires of the majority of us, the Dunlops suck. The rest are fine with them but it is what it is. It's just a tire. Not a great all season tire, not a high performance tire. Just a tire. That's why they make MORE tires to meet individual needs.

Just for the record, I fall in the anti Dunlop category and agree 100% with the "Toyota saves $50 a tire" theory, which in turn is a smart financial decision for a thriving business.

    Feel free to continue arguing...

This has spun out into some rediculous arguments all I wanted to know was how long most people's dunlops lasted that's it but this is a problem I've found with this forum everybody wants to put there two cents in about wats better or why wat uve chosen isn't the best and I just asked a simple question about how long do the dunlops last not how long before u changed them because they suck

I destroyed my AT20's in about 5k miles, the rears were torn up and worn to the wear bars, ant the fronts were almost to the wear bars, would have lasted me about 2k more miles. I go through tires very quickly

    Too many to list now.
30000 miles still going strong. They've served me well in the snow, summer, and even some decent trails. Not bad I say, for what the vehicle came equipped with.

I got 78K out of my Dunlops. They actually weren't half bad tires as long as you drive within their limits. They had a better ride than the General Grabbers I have now.

7000 mi on the OE dunlops, I've had BFG AT's on my other trucks for many years. I want them on this one but at $240 each and upgrade to the 265's I'd need a 5th one for the spare. It's tough for a cheapskate like me to pull the trigger on that.

Tire chains is the choice for me (right now), need them anyway for heavy mud conditions. Only $75/pr for the heavy duty chains.

I have 5000 miles on mine. There is noticeable wear and I would anticipate that I might get 15000 out of them at the most. I definitely don't baby my tires but I don't punish them either.

    On a scale from 1 - 10, 1 = driving like a grandma and 10 = John force, I'm a solid 5 at least.

On one hand, I can't see spending $220 +/- per tire for the BFG A/Ts right now with so much tread left. On the other hand, I'm leasing my truck for 4 years and I would love to have better tires on there for the majority of the lease and enjoy them. I guess in the end, my wife would kill me if I ditched these just because. Maybe I'll just punish the shit out of them and then say their unsafe for our family!!! :D

This is 2nd gen. There is no such thing as staying on topic! LOL

Run stock pressures, they'll eat the shoulders of the tread in short order. I run more so they've got lots of life left (so far 18k).
