I bought some 5100 Bilsteins from DSM. They call for dust boot covers for the front struts. Mine did not come with them or the other hardware like rubber bushings and the metal washers and the nut for the stem. Do I need to buy the dust Boot cover and the bushings, I know I have to buy a nut for the stem. There is a few pics with the old strut compared to the Bilsteins

    Thanks Ya'll

when i got the 5100s for the tundra they came with everything included. washers bushings lower spring retainers and the nut. something must have happened with the baggie. contact dsm and find out. maybe it was a return or maybe bilstein just didnt put them in on accident. and since the shock shaft faces up dust covers arent really needed. good luck

You dont need the dust covers, its an optional thing. When i swapped my new coils and changed my shocks i just reused the bushings and washers but if yours are in bad shape, now is a good time to change them.

Dust boot covers are optional, I don't run them and have had no problems in two years. From what I've heard, they can be more of a hassle than a help

Its a good precaution to get new bushings/hardware with the new shock, but if your old stuff is in good enough shape they can be reused

I know when I got my 5100's the bushings from my ranchos would not fit them when assembled. I had to order the bushings from Toytec. If memory serves me correctly though mine did come with the nut for the strut.

DownSouth says the dust cover is optional and they know their stuff

Thanks ya'll my bushings were in fairly good shape I will just reuse them. I did have to go get new Nuts for the stem end. I just can't believe they don't come with the new bushings and washers and nuts when you buy these. I know when ever in the past I bought shocks and stuff like this it normally has the package inside with all that hardware. The box was sealed and all but no hardware inside. Who knows signs of the time companies gonna save some money somewhere and somehow. Thanks ya'll I also installed a new rack and pinion while I had the front tore apart. The original rack was leaking like a fawcet and drivers side inner tierod end was bad. Hope all this work is gonna make it drive like new again my arms are tired putting this stuff on.
