Taking the Silverstar bulbs, for example, to get "more output" they drastically over-drive the filament. However, after the blue tint performs its magic, the actual output of the bulbs is about the same, or a little less, of a standard factory halogen bulb. However, the "whiter" color gives a _perception_ of "brighter", therefore people love them.

I had Silverstar Ultra or whatever they are in my truck, and they were no improvement over my stock bulbs (I couldn't actually see any better). That's just my experience, I've not used the PIAAs. Physics is generally pretty stable, however, and the basically the same thing applies with them.

You should be quite happy with the Osrams. I'm on my second pair--they are well worth it!

What is the difference in the PIAA Xtreme White and PIAA Intense White? If I am looking for the light output to be the most white in color, not yellow at all. Which one should I go with?

There's a lot of great information here but now I'm not sure which route I should take. I'd like to Pick up an HID kit for the truck but they're so expensive. I'm considering the PIAA's because I'm looking for the whitest/ greatest light increase possible. They're rated at around 4300k which im told is the best temp for most visibility.

However, after reading Danial's post in #39, do I go the economy route and hope it's what I want or do I continue saving for the HID kit??

    Decisions, decisions...

I am pretty sure that the Philips X-treme powers put out more of a white light than the PIAA's, but you will find tons of conflicting opinions on the matter.

I have the Philips, until I get my retros done.

I have done some research and I am very happy with the Philips Xtreme Power bulbs. Check out WWW.candlepowerinc.com. My advice would be to stay away from HID's for any halogen housings.

I checked out your link, so now I have another option. . . Their description does sounds better then the others, but just curious though as to what makes the Phillips better than the PIAAs in your opinion? Also, what do you do about matching the fog lights?

    this

IMHO from my experiences both those companies suck.

Piaa quality  can't even install a gasket correctly on a set of overpriced $200 lights
    [IMG]

    Piaa vs narva
    [IMG]

Osram, Narva, and many other companies out there making high quality products.

Blue film/tint blocks the blue spectrum of the light thus dimming the light. It just looks brighter, but in reality is darker then with no tint.

Narva's blow them out of the water and are cheaper. Ultra's are coated thus tinted

    Narva 50 vs Silverstar Ultra

So I've decided to take my chances with a set of HID's. DDM tuning sells a 35 watt kit for the headlights and the fogs for $98. I figure its worth a try seeing as ill be spending close to $100 just buying te PIAA bulbs. I've read the reviews and a lot of people like them. Plus they come with a lifetime warranty. Hopefully the 35 Watt kits won't melt the housings, which I highly doubt.

Their website is below if anyone else is interested.

I went with Nokya's yellow fog lights. I dont use them often but when I do the yellow tint makes a difference in snow/fog.

Have you considered the fact that you are running HID's in a halogen housing? Unless you have converted your headlights to projectors you are not making the most usable light from the HID and are also going to be blinding anyone coming at you.

So what will be much brighter than stock but last more than a year. I've had the stock bulbs since new in 07 and still kicking. I can pull the damn headlight easy enough but I don't want to throw down 40$ per yer on bulbs.

    Narva? Osram (rallye? nightbreaker?)? Phillips?

    Too few to list.
I'd rather have OEM or OEM style as I'd rather have longevity over output. If you want more output, lightbar and more lights!

I really only have room for two lights on my ARB and I can't afford to throw down ungodly amounts for vision x or lightforces. I'm thinking hella 500s. It'd also be nice to have more light all the time with the headlights vs just off road or on long stretches of empty highway. It'd also be nice to have the damn output of both.

Then again I don't want to go through bulbs once a year.

I cant speak to the longevity of the Philips yet since they have only been in for a month. I have heard that the osram's will give you a great life (as well as the philips, which is why I partially went with them). Remember the saying "the brightest flame burns the quickest"? Well in most cases you are going to have a trade off between light output and life.

Ordered some xtreme powers, whatever. I'll keep the stock bulbs in the truck. It's pretty easy for me to remove the headlights anyway.

    Thanks for the input!

They were only 31 shipped too so a little easier to swallow than the more expensive bulbs, if they burn out fast. Thanks!
