    He's cute.

I had a cat that WOULD NOT scratch on scratching posts - only furniture. Did not matter if I yelled, sprayed water, whatever, she STILL SCRATCHED MY COUCH.

    Congrats!!
I love cats!! I've had them all my life. Later in life, I developed asthma conditions when I'm around them too long (weeks). Doc says..no more cats.:(

Is this an indoor cat or outdoor cat? The cats I've had were always outdoor cats. My parents still keep atleast 2 cats in their family and they're always outdoor cats. Nothing wrong with either outdoor or indoor cats....

With outdoor cats, you don't have a litter box, they can & will disappear for days, they bring wildlife into your house (mice, moles, rabbits, snakes, etc) and dead wildlife (mice, moles, rabbits, birds, snakes, etc etc etc).

Definately get him fixed...and get them all his shots (including feline Leukemia). I lost atleast 4 cats over my lifetime from feline leukemia.

exactly!! i would recommend NOT declawing your cat. when i was a kid, we had a cat that was declawed and it made him more aggressive. get a scratching post right away and place the cat on top of it whenever you see him digging/scratching on something that you dont want him on. he will ge the hint. also, make sure that you trim his claws every 3-4 weeks. that helps curb his urge to dig on stuff.

    my cat, Indie...

Indie's cute... I love black cats. We had several of them when I was a kid.
The first one was named Ricci. Then after he passed, there was Tikki, and then Tavi... then Inky. My parents have 'Little B' and they just got another black one (can't remember its name).

its an indoor cat. last night i tired introducing it to my dog mocha. mocha got used to him pretty quick and so did simba but simba would hiss every once in a while and maybe try to hit mocha away, but other than that mocha didnt care or bother to attack. What should i do about simba?

Nothing, Simba was going on instinct. Once he figures out that Mocha isn't a threat he will probably ignore him. My grandma had a black lab, grandpa brought home a kitten that was really young. She mothered the thing, cleaned it, looked after it, was protective of it. That cat was evil. Once he got older he'd claw the lab any time he got near her. She took it, like a loving mother. That cat was a prick to everyone but grandma. It would start purring if you petted it and then shred you arm. It attacked bare feet, made my toes bleed a few times. Would attack the back of your head when sitting on a couch, not playfully, made my ear bleed once. That evil cat met it's end under the tires of a neighbor's truck. Everybody but grandma was happy.

As long as Mocha isn't paying him any attention, ignore it. Simba had a pretty traumatic day - going to a new home, meeting the dog, leaving his litter mates.

All good posts here. I would follow them all...especially the neuter one. A spraying cat sucks to have in the house. A scratch post is a must and make sure you let him know it is for scratching or else he will use your furniture. Put his paws on the post and he will start to scratch right away. Also teach him to fetch... mine does. Slater is the one who fetches and is on the left. Bixby is my the other guy.

    Simba is cute :)
Give him lots of love, fresh water, & good food, petsmart sells a brand called Blue.
    Cosmic catnip too
Give the kitty & dog some time to get to know each other. It takes a bit. If you are worried while you are out, you can always get keep them apart while you are gone until each establish their role with each other.
    Congrats!
