I plan on getting a fiberglass camper shell in January. Don't know if I want one with side windows or not. I like the look of the ones without the side windows. Anyone have pic's without the windows? Pro's and con's of each? Any help will be appreciated.

I don't have a shell for my truck yet but I've thought about getting one with windows simply because loading and unloading most of the time I'll be able to see in there with whatever light is coming through the windows.

Of course the flip side of this is if you don't want people seeing what you have stored back there (tools, etc.)

I think for resale windows are a better option. If you ever sleep back there i'd think you'd want windows so you can see out. Also, windows that open up are nice in the summer... gets hot back there. What ever you do get the fold down slider up front... mine matches up with the truck slider... great for hauling long items (like one piece fishing rods.) One more thing... dogs like open windows. :)

I prefer the windows because of camping and I have a dog in there every now and then.

The best would be windoors because you can flip them open and not have to crawl to the front of the bed to get stuff that slid forward during the drive.

I just picked one up this past weekend with windows and I love it. I actually can see thru them and check my blind spot which u can't do with a non window top. Just yesterday I saw a 2wd reg f-150 with a windowless canopy and thought it just looked off. Get windows!

I saw a ford with the no windows one time and it looked kind of funny to me. Made it look like a van or something?

Plus the resale. I think that would hurt it.

I like the look of the no window caps but the windows make it more useable

I could do without the windows, but not without the side access. Mine's got flip up side windows, but I've had company vehicles with solid fiberglass side panels that flipped up. Makes backing out of tight areas difficult, but still can easily load and unload the bed.

Not a Tacoma but an older Tundra

This is the cap I was going to get for my truck

I ended up with this same cap , Leer 100RCC , but opted for side sliders

    Not sure that pic helps

Get it with win-doors. They make it much easier to use.

You guys with campers, what did they cost you? Prices around here are roughly $999.

My only reservation with the windoors is scratching the shit out of the side of the truck while accessing them

This happened to my old truck with a crossover toolbox from tool belts , belt buckles and pant studs

Windows are nice to have. It all depends on what you use it for though. If you plan on just using it to store things and keep them dry going windowless might be nice to keep unwanted eyes from looking around back there. But if you plan on camping back there windows that open are very nice.

Camping is what I had planned on doing. I really like the look of the ones without windows though.

If you camp in the back you'll want the windows- get sliders with screens. Better yet, get the Windoors with sliders and screens. The back gets really stuffy if you don't have any ventilation, it's also nice if you carry dogs in the back. Installing curtains isn't hard and in fact if you get a carpet lined shell you can make some simple curtains that attach with Velcro.

If you choose not to get windows you'll be stuck leaving the back open and draping a mosquito net over the opening. In really warm weather I generally do this also, but the cross breeze is nice.

Starting price is about the same in my area. I have side windows that both slide open, and flip up. I also have a removeable front slider. I paid $1,600 for it after tax and installed. VERY pricey for my taste, and I looked for a used one for a good long while before popping for the new one. It was worth it! At the time the vented windoors were a fairly new thing, and I could not find a shell with those windows on the used market.
