Recently i bought some Hella 4000's and want to put them behind my grill, but they'll only fit upside down.
Was reading online and people were stating that you can't mount them upside down b/c they have orientation specific housings. And there is a drainge hole on the bottom, but i was thinking i can just fill that with some silicone.

However they also stated you can't mount 500's upside down, but a lot of people run them upside down and have amazing light output.

So i guess what i'm asking is if someone with 4000's can chime in on the light output being affected by it being mounted upside down.

    ABS sucks.
Can you take the reflector and lens off the back and rotate it 180 degrees? I've done that in the past. As long as the words "TOP" on the lens stay at the top, and you orient the reflector in the same manner, you should be okay...

I run my 500's upside down no problem, i run my big KC's upside down too, I put a plastic nut and carriage style bolt to cover the hole that is now at the top and drilled out new ones on the new bottoms

Hey when you get those 4000s can you post a pic of the light output? I was going to buy some in the next month or so. Are you converting them to hid also?

You can't rotate 500ff's? I wonder why Hella made them that way. I rotated my 700ffs

Yeah ill post some in my build.
Yes HID to 55 Watt probably 5k

Yeah the I made for my truck doesn't allow running 3 lights spaced evenly. either 2 or 4 hah

It's weird. They're still bright and throw light like they should.
Just seeing if the 4000's will be the same

I can help! There is what appears to be a water drain on only one side (the bottom) of the lights. If turned upside down water won't drain. I turned mine upside down and took a dremel to shave out a new drain hole since I mounted them upside down. I took hi-temp grill paint and just dabbed a few times at the bare metal as a rust preventative. Here is a pic of my modification. Also, I have cornering lights. They seem to be brighter than my brights with a wider spread than my fogs.

I don't know, I never had them mounted upright. They are amazing at lighting up the area though.
