Loud air pump sound???

Flux capacitor winding up?

 

OR the muffler bearings winding down.

Possibly. You got any spare bottles left? I'm all out of extras at my house. It could maybe be the ST One acting up on the truck again.

 

I was thinking maybe his ceiling gasket was leaking which made the flux capacitor that much louder with the "low blinker fluid" warning chime going all at the same time making his truck sound like a Dyson

Done, thats it, i have, yet again, diaganosed another members truck via the internet with little to go on other than the description of funny sounds.

 

You just blew my fuckin mind!!! How could I have not known the root of the cause was the ceiling gasket causing the Dyson like sounding truck???!!!

 

Thats the key to being a good tech, gotta think of all the possible causes and narrow down the least likey and assume the customers absolutely fucking insane , and BOOM! The answer was there the whole time. Just doing my civic duty here helping my fellow TWer.

 

I still maintain it's the muffler bearings. See page E46 of the parts catalog:

 

Worn muffler bearing are way too often mistaken for the same sound as a common household Dyson, the only thing that makes me differ in opinion to this theory would be that the OP stated the noise was coming from under the hood and the muffler bearings would be located too far back to be confused with the hood location. Though, i am starting to wonder if we are in fact speaking of a Dyson or more like a Hoover based on the sound description?

 

Mine makes it too!..doesnt bother me...did it before and after k&n filter...if only we could reroute it to pump air into the intake and not the exhaust be like a little turbo

Your opinion has been askewed as if you had studied engine harmonics correctly you would had understood that the sound of the worn muffler bearings are letting the sound travel upstream, thus it sounding as if you had a problem indeed under the hood.

That idea has been thought of and it actually exists! It nets you an additional 25hp to the wheels! They call it the e-turbo.

 

Of course, it could also be the blinker fluid sloshing about, causing windage losses. Be sure to flush your blinker fluid with Motul synthetic. Expensive but well worth it! Our trucks take 5.9L.

 

That is by far the highest quality blinker fluid on the market. That's the only stuff I would ever recommend.

The dealership told me it's normal. And it's the air pump.

 

Yeah it’s the SAC, (secondary air pump). Runs when you first start up to pump air into the exhaust, something to do with reducing emissions by burning stuff off. Mine also runs for a few seconds when I turn it off, not sure what that’s about. Also, yeah e- turbos are real, I also have a Z3 and saw a mod for one... I wonder if the electricity used to run them pulls more power than they create though. The write up seemed sketchy Lol!

 

That bearing looks really good for coming out of such a nasty muffler...I'd re-use it....
