Forgive me if this is has been answered, I searched quickly with no luck finding an answer my specific question. I'm in the middle of changing my wheels (a painfully slow process as I had ACL surgery last week) and it occurred to me I might need different lug nuts.

I bought basic steel wheels originally from an FJ and had my winters mounted to them. My question is can I use the Alloy Lug nuts from my factory wheels on these steel ones? There seems to be a gap between the steel of the rim and the washer which normally seats on the Alloy rim.

For refrence the wheels I'm putting on are similar to these (google pic)...

You need nuts with a conical seat instead of the flat seat used for the alloy rims.

Also, this keeps your summer lug nuts nice and clean through the winter. ;)

Swing by an auto parts store and they'll ring you up for probably 50% less than the dealer... I see you're in NB - I got mine in the surplus section at Princess Auto for about 5 bucks per 4-pack!

    Cheers,
    Marc

True enough! (was thinking of our other vehicle...)

Regardless, I run a winter set of solid lug nuts that don't have that washer bouncing around.

    Cheers,
    Marc

It is not. The one on the left is a "mag" style seat, which is flat (the washer). The one on the right is a conical seat lug nut.

doesn't look too bad with chrome lugs if you have to go that route :D

but yes, you'll definitely have to use the conical lugs with the tapered side. the flat washer style mag ones might tighten up at first, but with will not stay that way and will work loose...

No Mods yet - that'l change
so basically when Toyota sells you a new truck with alloys, and the spare is steel they should be providing a set of steel lugs????

They should but your "mag" lugs will work temporarily.
