If you're looking for a good AR .308 gun...I am personally a fan of LaRue, LMT, LWRCI, and custom .308's by RW Snyder. Like Sleeper said LWRCI has worked out their magazine issues with the REPR and you should be able to run MagPul magazines with ease...I haven't had any issues. If you have issues...like Sleeper said...send it to them and they will take care of it, period.

On the HK416 I only know of a few units in the US military that are using them...some with success...others with speed bumps. I think it depends on the unit armorers...they have a lot to do with the success of a weapon system. Some of the units that are using them are going back to DI AR's and are switching to 300BLK uppers. I am interested to see what some of the suppliers are going to be offering at SHOT in January.

Sleeper - did you swap your SOPMOD stock out for the carbine stock?

    - Mark

this might be a stupid question, but is there a 308 upper made for the ar-15 that takes the magazine through the side and is still semi-auto?

No I bought the base model. It was about $200 cheaper than buying it with the parts already upgraded. I also wanted to go with a CTR, with a cheek riser, and a thicker buttpad, and probably a LaRue A Peg or Ergo Suregrip, so it didn't make sense to pay more for stuff that I didn't plan on using anyways. I like the SOPMOD and all the Magpul stuff they use, but I just wanted to go with something different this time. I am trying to make this an example of my ultimate rifle.

You think that's bad? I just quoted myself a custom as a back up rifle in case my primary goes down while teaching a class. this way I can just use the back up rifle. Using all my dealer and distributor pricing it was still 2K. Ugh. Lol.

As for the LWRC yes it was a repr and like I said the owner is the second owner who immediately changed out the stock and then went after market spring and buffer then shot custom reloads he bought that were rated slower than white box ammo (so underpowered). The original owner hadn't even broke the rifle in yet.

I took it to the range and ran two boxes of factory federal through it with only a couple hiccups and he ran 3 more boxes through it with just a couple more hiccups. He was happy that issue was working itself out so didn't leave the rifle with me (which I didn't think was necessary either). I think it was a combo of: underpowered ammo, rifle and buffer system needed to be shot some and it just needed a good cleaning and lubing. First repr I'd shot and it was nice. My only beef with LWRCs is I like very light rifles (personal preference). My partner owns 4 of them and they are phenomenal rifles just doesn't suit my shooting style is all.

Did the guy swap standard parts out for spikes parts? If so he was on the forum a couple weeks ago asking why his gun won't run.

No he swapped out for slashes enhanced spring and ar10 buffer weight in a UBR which I still think could be the culprit. It felt like a short stroke issue but I said to go with putting rounds through it first to see about breaking in. Usually 100 rounds is more than enough but that was my first experience with a repr. I have to say that side charging system is freaking nice the way its disconnected but as a hunter id like to be able to ride the handle forward and push the bolt quietly into battery. Then again I wouldn't hunt with that rifle lol. Totally different purpose.

Sounds like you're trying to make a rifle designed for CQB work as a SPR or DMR which it wasn't designed for. I'd get a good non-magnified red dot or HWS and run 62gr rounds in it and use it the way it was designed. I'm not a big believer in one thing for everything, use them to their roles. That's just my take on it.

Anyone know who makes the flip up sights that attach at a 45* angle. Was trying to find some but having a hard time.
