Replaced it with a DireHard Platinum. It's the best thing I could find that was in stock. So far i'm really happy with it. Headlights and interior lights are brighter and my lights don't dim anymore with heavy bass. I always had a slight dim with the Optima, even when it was brand new.

Another thing I noticed is that my Optima was 800cca and the DieHard has 740. Not sure if that's anything to worry about...

Good battery choice. How long did your Optima last?

I picked up one over the summer. My lights still dim when my bass hits. I'm thinking about doing the big three upgrade. How big of an amp do you have pulling power??

    300cca will start your truck.

The old rule of thumb used to be 1 cca per CID.

would have been 6 years in Jan.

    Red

I also have the Big 3 done. I have one amp pulling 500 watts rms for my L5. My door speakers are powered through my head unit. It's not the loudest system, but it was enough to dim my lights.

Btw, My bass even hits harder with this battery.

    Good to know. Thanks!

^Rather than a larger battery, I think the typical remedy for the extra power demand is to install a large 1F capacitor.

^ Caps are junk, IMO. A high output alternator is the best thing you can do if your running a power hungery system.

^ Yeah, it's a 35. Not sure if the 31 will fit, though.

I really wanted a DH Platinum 34m battery (marine battery), but no one had them in stock. It's the same price, but has more CCA's, longer reserve and it's a deep cycle. That's what I would get if I were you.

    ^ Lol

It's about 10lb's heavier, but I havent noticed any lean yet. If I do, a couple turns on the Kings should fix it!

Group 31 will fit a tacoma with modifications, I installed one this past fall. The hold down needs to be modified to fit the +-1" taller battery, cost was about $4 with oem parts from the dealer. Simply buy a new hold down j-bolt and nut for the front, rebend it to the necessary length to work in the rear, after grinding out the spot welds that hold the rear hook to the bar. A longer body ground cable was needed, as well as a longer power supply cable to the power distribution box. And since my group 31 is a center stud commercial type, I had to replace the ground cable clamp with an eyelet, and modify the "eyelet" on the positive cable. A bit of hassle, but I had a perfectly good 925cca G31 dying for a home, and they are cheap too, go to a commercial truck dealer or parts supply, and you can get a quality one for less than $100. A dual purpose battery would be ideal for winching or stereos.

Sounds like you need a nice big capacitor.

CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) is BCI's performance measurement standard for starting batteries here in North America at 0 degrees F. The vehicle manufacturers test their engines at 0 degrees F to determine the minimum CCA requirements, which they publish in the owners manual and to BCI and they size the OEM battery when the vehicle is manufactured. If you start you engine in temperatures below 0 degrees F, then you should increase the CCA performance of your battery. Conversely, if you start your engine in temperatures above 0 degrees F, not as much CCA performance is required. At 77 degrees F, 300 amps could easily start a healthy engine. For more information on CCA sizing, please see Section 7.2 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org.

Why do you think capacitors are crap?
I thought the general purpose of putting a capacitor in a car with a system that has a high demand was to minimize dimming.
    Just curious

Waste of money...i never saw a platnum last more then a few months. I never had a problem with optimas. 6 years is a good span for a battery.

I do and I stand by my statement. Caps are junk when it comes to car audio. Ask any real car audio guy and they'll tell you the same. Google it...
