    Hey guys

This might be in the wrong thread but I wasn't sure where to go with it...
I'm looking to buy a Tacoma and I am stuck on, should I get a 2WD prerunner or should I go with the 4x4. I want to put long travel on it but also be able to go places where I wouldn't think 2WD could go. Is that possible to have the best of both worlds or are they built so differently that I would need to choose to between a long travel prerunner or a 4x4 wheelin machine?

Just get the 4wd if you think there is a chance you might need it. Try the search function as there are tons of threads on this very same question.

If you were me, you would buy a 4x4... but you are not me, you are you, so you will have to figure out what you expect from the truck.

Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
I gotta prerunner OR ply the locker is nice as far as mud goes it and a good set of tires will get u nearly as far as a 4x4 with open diff imo. Rock climbing and sand may be a different story because of wheel base comin into play but I got neither of those in north Alabama. So its enough for me

If you close to mountains than get 4x4. So many people on this site regret getting 4wd

i think he meant so many regret not getting it. a lot get 2wd and end up selling or trading after a while and getting 4x4.

My 4x4 long travel cost me $140 more in parts than a prerunner.
For second gens the axles are $520.

In the grand scheme of LT costs....that ain't shit.

Guess that shows how much I know, didn't realize the price difference wasn't that much.

I got a 4X4, but I made sure it does not have a hood scoop. The scoop bugs the hell out of me and doesn't function anyway. Tomorrow morning I'm putting my Avid Light Bar on.

Right on guys, I appreciate the feedback. Looks like I'm gonna keep thinking but 4x4 will definitely be number one :headbang: unless I can be persuaded into a 2wd prerunner anytime soon. But I doubt that'll happen :D
