I use an old Nalgene water bottle in the drivers side cup holder and throw all of my change in there. It sits about level with the arm rest in the middle and can be used as a hand rest. That leaves one big cup holder for my drink/ phone. The smaller can holder usually has my headunit remote (useless) and my work badge. Knife, coupons, chap stick, etc in front of the shifter and sun glasses in the overhead console.
I sometimes use the leather around my shifter to hold my phone or any other small items if the cup holders are full.
I like the idea OP, subbed to see how it turns out. For me, it's kindof a 'don't fix it if it ain't broke' situation, but to each their own

If I were to get rid of any cup hole, the one closest to the shifter is the one I'd lose. With a 20oz coffee cup, it puts the cup too close to the shifter when going into second.

Haha, can't show up to a big social gathering with chew stuck in between my teeth :D And the parents don't like it.

Yeah, I just didn't see a real easy way to install my 6 switch panel in that area without also loosing one of my larger cupholders so I opted to just take out one instead of two.

    stock, for now
if you put a short shift kit in, a 24 ounce coffee fits in that small holder with ease.
