New Brake Pads, which ones?

    Looking to replace my brake pads and looking for opinions on which to use. :confused:

    I went with Autozone Duralast pads. They have a lifetime warranty and seem to be performing very well. I'll never have to buy pads again :)

    As I understand it, Lifetime warranty on those pads are for wear? At least that's what an Autozone associate explained to me when I bought them for another car.

    Anyone have any experience with EBC green stuff or Hawk LTS/HPS?

    I asked the associated when I bought them if I brought them back next week worn to the nub with 50k miles on them, they'd replace them and he said yes. I didn't read all the red tape but it seemed to me they're banking on people either forgetting about the warranty or not keeping their vehicle long enough to need a third set of brakes.

    Even without the warranty, I'd buy them again. They were $50 for the pair for the ceramic pads. They are quiet and seem to have a better bite than the stock pads did. Dust isn't bad either, I'd say they dust a little less than stock also. I don't find myself cleaning my wheels as often with these pads.

    At what mileage did everyone replace their pads? I have 72k on my truck (I'm the only owner) and I've never replaced the pads. I took a wheel off the other day and it looks like I have plenty of pad left. I was blown away. How long do the stockers usually last?

    Pad life depends on how you drive, where, and if you tow or load the bed.

    At 70k miles I replaced the pads and rotors. Seems the newer vehicles are eating through them faster because they use the brakes as traction control.

    My rotors still look good though I haven't measured thickness and the machine shop measures them anyway before resurfacing. Anyone one what oem is made of? Semi or ceramic?

    I'm leaning towards the hawks LTS though they are on the expensive side. I'm also going to upgrade to SS lines to get a firmer pedal when I go OME with my suspension.

    i have had Hawk LTS pads on both of my last Tacomas. Very good pads, in my opinion. Good feel, great stopping power, low noise.

    Only downside is they do produce a bit of brake dust. I would (and have) most definitely purchase again.

    they are still MUCH cheaper than any of the EBC pads and only slightly more than the duralast ceramics. autoanything has them for i think around $75 shipped.

    Hawk pads looks like a winner. Worth it to flush the brake fluid or is it best just to bleed the system? How hard is it to bleed em?

    I went with OEM pads.
    Rotors were good but I had them turned anyway. Now I should be good for another 5 years (50k miles)

    It's always worth it to flush the system to get rid of all the fluid and residue. I believe machine flush uses a 20 psi.

    I usually bleed the lines a few times to try and flush as much of the old fluid out as possible. Just make sure you keep the reservior topped off when you do.
