    Minor adjustment is required.

Normal HIDs do reflect off of the chrome and would not work with all black headlights. However with projectors, the light is projected directly outward rather than reflecting so chrome is not necessary. My kit included fog halos with it.

Just for clarification D2S refers to the bulb not the projector as the FX-R and many others use a D2S bulb. The correct reference should be Morimoto Mini as the other projector of choice for Tacoma retros.

Double post, so to adjust them, you have to take the entire thing apart again?

When you have them apart, you need to make sure they're level horizontally and pointed approximately where your old halogens were. Then, you put them back together, and do the final aiming with your regular adjustment screws on the outside of the housing. Just like you would with regular stock halogens.
