New Tires and Wheels (Lift) - Budget ~$2,500

    Hey guys I am a new tacoma owner (1st time) and have a ton of questions I couldn't quite get sorted out using the forums over the last couple months so I decided to join and ask the pros out there for some help. I have a white 2009 trd-off road double-cab stock everything. I am looking to get new tires, wheels, and possible lift (suspension or leveling kit) if my budget will allow for it (~$2,500).

    Tires - Nitto Terra Grappler - $923.96
    I know for certain I want to get the terra grapplers. I live in Eastern Washington where we get all 4 seasons and having a good rated snow tire is a must. After a lot of searching Nitto's seemed to be a favorite for a lot of people on the forum. I know with stock suspension I can go with a size of 265/70/16 without rubbing (am I right?). What size would you recommend to avoid rubbing and trimming for stock or with a suggested lift that would fit my total budget?

    Wheels - BMF Stealth - 867.96
    I am looking to get 17 wheels that are either all black or mostly black and will fit the above tires. My only concerns are that the road salts they use in WA during the winter can wreak havoc on chrome wheels and I would love to leave both the tires and wheels that I buy on. In addition, trying to search for wheels that would fit was very confusing because the site I was using was asking for bolt patterns and other things I wasnt quite sure on. What brand and style of wheel do you suggest?

    Lift - TBD
    Assuming I have $500-$700 left over do you suggest doing any sort of lift that would allow for slightly bigger wheels but not compromise ride quality and safety? I hear a lot about doing the rear tsb but have no idea what that means. I know it has to do with the rear leaves but thats all I know. What type of lift would you suggest for my remaining budget?

    If you couldnt tell by my post and obviously a noob and dont have a mechanical bone in my body. I would have a shop do the install of all the parts so I would need to factor labor in. I appreciate the help!!!

    King 2.5" extended travel coilovers with compression adjusters, Camburg UCA's, King 2.5" rear shocks, TRD 1st gen CAI.
    Do the wheels have to be 17"? Tires tend to be a bit cheaper for 16"s. You could put the money you save towards the lift. Plus, 16" look better and will make your tires look bigger.

    Method Race Wheels make some nice looking wheels. I have their "Standard" wheel in matte black.

    No 16's would be fine. In fact I only chose 17's because I thought it would allow for a bigger tire...

    For lifts check out toytec.com I got my 3" lift for a little over $700 I think. It had eibach coils, bilstein 5100 shocks, and a 2" AAL for the rear I think it was. I like my lift, still rides smooth and haven't had any problems. As for tires, I have a set of 285/75/16 waiting to be put on but trimming is required for them to fit. If you don't want to trim any than stick with the size you want. Also, did you look at the Goodyear Duratracs? A lot of people on here run those too.

    I personally would stick with 16's, but I've always liked having more tire than rim on trucks

    I will take a look for sure. And idea on what a shop would charge to install everything? Also I really want to buy the stuff sooner than later because my truck randomly pulls to the right. I had stock Kelly tires on there now and my dealership, who has aligned it twice, says its the tires causing the pull.

    Lift height determines how big of a tire you can run. 265/75/16 will look bigger than 70/17 because of the tire to wheel ratio.

    16's would definately be cheaper. Just make sure the wheels you choose fit as some 16's does not. You might also want to try some teflon coated wheels or shiny black as flat tends to show dirt more. Better deals can be had if you buy your wheels and tires as set. I paid $1350 out the door for my Nitto's and revolvers (tax, balance, mounting included). You should have plenty left over for OME lift.

    Plus not much different in wheel prices between a 16 and 17

    Also some lifts require a 17" wheel so if he gets 16's and decides to change his lift later on he might have to buy 17's anyways.

    Assuming I do a 3" OME lift (I have read a lot about) what would be a good tire size and wheel size to make the tires look big and not rub.

    Yep, for a higher lift with bigger tires 17's would be the way to go.

    lol back to the 17's. I have updated both the tires and wheels accordingly. The only thing I am not sure about is tire size assuming 3" OME lift.

    Do the tires you're comparing have the same load range? That makes a difference in price as well.

    With the budget he has in mind for a lift, he's not going any higher than 3", which a16" wheel will be fine for. Only lifts, I know of that require 17" are shitty drop bracket lifts anyway...

    The wheels I just added only come in 17's. With the Nitto 265/70/17 and the wheels I like I am at $1651.92 without shipping or installation. Assuming I do the OME 3" I would probably get a bigger tire too which will add another $50-100 total. That is if you guys think I need a taller/wider tire. I want everything to look proportioned.

    Not sure what a shop would charge for the install. I had a friend help me install my lift and it took about half a day to do it all. The 70/17 may be cheaper due to less tire since it's for a 17" wheel? Just keep in mind that depending on you wheel and tire size you may need wheel spacers so you don't rub against your UCA.

    You might want to go with a 285. 265 Nittos will look kinda small, especially on a 17" wheel...

    You shouldn't need spacers as long as you get the proper back spacing.

    You'll rub, so trimming is a must. If you wheel, you'll also want to do a cab mount chop.

    As for mpg, can't tell you for sure. You'll lose some, but it also depends on your driving habits.
