Halogen lights question

I'm looking at putting some halogen lights on my ARB when I get it mounted in a few weeks, I'm wondering if anyone has info on the difference between a 20$ light and a 300$ light from PIAA?

Heres a 20$ light I was looking at from Princess Auto

Plastic chrome, plastic housings, plastic lenses, insecure mount, poor sealing....

IMHO, PIAA is overrated and overpriced, but likewise, the $20 set is going to be a shitty Chinese import that's not going to last.
At least the PIAA is going to have a high quality lens that will survive moderate impact.

 

Not to mention the princess auto light doesn't have PIAA across the front... Princess auto, love that store. Not a great place to buy something like this however.

 

What are other people running? There must be some good middle ground between a $20 light and a $300.

 

I'm running Hella 4k's. $120ish per light.

 

First I had two:





Hella 4000, 100 watt halogen, Pencil Beams.

Then I added two more:





Kragen HID Euro Beams.

Then I converted the Hella Halogens to HID...





Now, at night, I can REALLY SEE!

Kragen HID lamps ~$120 ea., Hella 4000 halogens, about the same... See the separate post on the conversion for costs, and the headache with GG Lighting to get the correct bulbs after the first set failed. There are price specials all the time here on TW selling the Kragens for cheaper amounts. Be aware, that the Kragens are plastic body and severe off roading in Baja has cracked to housing on mine. The Hellas are all metal. The Kragers are very bright and have a good driving lamp pattern, and only draw 35 watts but are much brighter, and whiter than 100 watt halogen bulbs... which I replaced with 5000ºK HID 35 watt bulbs... now I have four very bright and very white lamps (2 pencil beam and 2 driving or euro beam). Got the two cracked Kragens repaired with fiberglass, but one has cracked again on my last Baja trip.

 

Ive got lightforce strykers (hid), shouldnt say much but you usually get what you pay for.

Ive got buddies who swear on the cheapies and they do work. Not sure how long theyd last with mud, rain, pressure washing, trees and brush though.
