Before moving across country I sold my notcher, jd2 bender, welder, lathe, pretty much everything I owned, now I want to build some sliders and all I have is a welder and chop saw so I was thinking about using square tubing for the legs and the main rail then use round tube with some manufactured 45's welded on for the outer tube.

    1. Will this look good?
    2. Would there be a strength issue?

I don't wheel through rocky areas, but I get close to trees from time to time, and I like the idea of a point for a hi lift jack if I need to change a tire.

I know I can buy them for a good price but I can build them cheaper and the satisfaction of creating something don't come from opening a FedEx box

I'd do square tube if you cant bend round tube. They'd be beef that way, just make sure to bevel the edge of the tubes at the joints for better weld penetration and a smoother joint without sanding the welds.
    Have fun!

^ that's another option, I just like the look of the round tube over square

Bent tube is MUCH stronger than any angles welded...
    Here's what I built...

Fortunately I have access to a hydraulic bender, and I have tested my bends over welds very extensively

Before I had access to a bender if.I had small projects to do, I could usually bribe the local exhaust shop to do a few bends for 20$ or so..

Did you weld or bolt those on, can you lift the truck from them?

I bolted em, that way if I get to crazy I can pull em off n fix or replace em easier..

And yes they Will lift my truck, the weekend after I finished em, I tested em, me n some of the NW guys had a Hell of a trip to the Evans creek orv park, at one point I dropped onto a tree so hard I dented the tree, and continued to scrape all the paint off thru out the rest of our journey!

I can't remember what gauge, but it was all seamless... And yes the front mount the bolts are flipped because the front 2 feet of the frame is boxed

Oh and they aren't that heavy 40lbs each???maybe
