Just like the title states, I was wondering if high-clearance front bumpers negatively affect MPG for highway travel, long distance, etc.?

I would say yes. They open the wheelwells up in front and wreck aerodynamics there.

I think it would, the aerodynamics of the truck was factored into the design and this along with the weight change, if any, would negatively impact MPG. Although I would imagine the impact would be minimal if even noticed at all.

Really depends on additional weight and bumper design.

Big tires, big lift, Lots of stuff's.
My ARB does but it's a heavy bitch. My runner barley gets 200-220 miles per tanks. My 3.4 sucks gas.

With the 3 inch Toytec Ultimate Suspension lift, I see about 1 mpg in city and 1/2 mpg highway less than before. If you do a fancy off front bumper and expose the front tires I understand the mpg's really drop. I just drove from York PA to Bangor PA on two tanks of gas.....in some snow...oh...be careful using your odometer for calculations..my 285/75/16's skew my odometer.....

I would think a lift with bigger tires hurt gas mileage more than a plate bumper would.

I guess I'll find out when I put my all-pro on next week!

I'm about to put 5100's on mine to level. Not sure yet which setting but I will find out. I would think the tires make more difference than the lift. I lost about .5 mpg when I added my wheel and tire combo. Based on my research my wheel and tire combo only weighed in at 3 lbs heavier than the stock sport wheel and tires. And are basically the same size. (Went from 17's down to 16's) Anyway I'm curious to see if leveling the front hurts? I don't drive a lot of highway so I don't feel that it will for me. :notsure: I would think it would make more difference on highway miles being at higher speeds where the aerodynamics would affect it more. We'll see. It may be a few weeks before I can get the 5100's put on though. :(

I noticed the mpg dropped right after I installed mine. Then I switched from All terrains to mudders and got even worse! Not that Im complaining ofcourse.

i lost about 2 total mpg going to bilsteins and 265/75's.im sure a big bumper would probably hit you another .5 or 1.

I lost 2 mpg after I installed my ARB. That was with a 2" lift and stock tires. When I added the 255/85/16 KM2's, that dropped the MPG by another 1. It's the aerodynamic changes that hurt MPG the most.

Thread resurection bump. I get 17.7 mpg for a full tank of our oxgenated 87 octane "fuel" that they sell here in Arizona. My truck has a front plate bumper, 2" lift via Icon suspension, and Dura-Trac tires (size 265/75R16). When it was stock I never got over 18.0 mpg. This is combined city/highway miles. My truck is 4x4, 4.0L V6, 5 speed auto trans. To minimize fuel usage try to keep the RPM down to 2,000 when cruising on the freeway and use the cruise control!, 2k RPM equates to right at 70mph in my truck, Oh, I have the stock 3.73 ratios in my axles.
