I love my 2013 tails but dont like the chrome. From what Ive read taking them apart is a nightmare and the oven trick doesnt work correct?

My truck is white and I dont like the look of black tails on white.

Anyone use the night shades red on anything?

What I'd like to do is paint the entire outter housing all red besides the reverse light .

What do you think? Anyone try something similar ?

I think it'd be easier/look better/make more sense to trade someone with the old style tails for your new ones. I think 5lugs have the non LED chrome style.

It'd be sketchy. You wouldn't be able to match the color up perfectly, and you'd be able to tell. The ring is always gonna be lighter, and youre still tinting, so they wouldnt be as bright as replacements...Personally, I'd just buy some aftermarket lights because there's no doubt that they will look better. Sell the old ones, and you might be able to break even since they're new takeoffs.
