Water Leak??

For a while now my carpet has bee soaking wet under my floor mat on the driver side. I can't find where its coming from. It don't believe it leaking through the door seal as under my floor mat is the only place its wet. Any ideas on what could be going on?

 

Are you sure its water? Has your truck been in rain lately?

 

I'm pretty sure its water because it's odorless. And yes it has been raining for a couple weeks now. It doesn't seem to go away completely either even when its not raining. Just the patch gets smaller.

 

Have you modified or ran any wires through the firewall?

 

Yah if its been raining the firewall would be the first place to check

 

It looked like the previous owner had and I have ran a couple wires myself but on the engine side its dry.

 

Yah but it might be draining off your windshield and some water may be being picked up by a little hole in the firewall where some wire are being run through. There is that big rubber hole where lots of wires are running through the firewall just above where it looks like the water is coming from. Maybe check that?

 

I would be checking the firewall plug where you and previous owner ran wires. And while your checking grab some silicone sealant and seal both the engine bay side and under dash side of the main fire wall plug. Its easy to find. Also if you suspect as I do that the water is coming from the engine bay, grab some flash lights and point them toward firewall and then look under drivers side dash for light coming through.

 

So I see what yall are saying about the fire wall hole and I'll seal it to be sure but its not damp anywhere near the hole...

 

I have the same issue in my 2009. I took it to the stealership who acted like they have never seen a leaky Taco before. The said they hosed it down for 15 minutes and never could get it to leak. Every time it rains, mother nature seems to get it to leak with no problems. Its only on the drivers floor and its enough to saok the carpet. I already have mildew smell and am pissed.

No resolution from Toyota yet.

 

Also have you taken a really close look at your door weather stripping and also your windshield seal? Any chance the windshield has been replaced recently?

 

The thing is if it was coming in through either of those points wouldn't my seats and the Top of my floor map be wet. I have rubber mats so the water would hold there first before leaking down.

Is there any change that it can come up through the floor?

 

I have standing water in an area of mine that the body is rusting. Super pissed.

 

If the seal is bad near the hinge point of the drivers side door then no the seat wouldnt be wet. And If the windshield seal is bad water can run down behind dash and eventually to the floorboard.

Im not sure about your year but there is a floor plug in my double cab but its under the drivers seat.

 

Ill recheck all the seals again and see if I can see anything. Its a 2006 PreRunner

 

One of the mud flap bolts go straight through IIRC, check that.

 

I don't have mud flaps so they could have been taken off. Ill look into this too.

 

That could be the problem, at least make sure the bolts were placed back in the holes since the flaps are off.

 

I had the same problem with my 2010. Mine came from the rear seal on the back window. The factory messed up the seal when they installed it and instead of the water running from the channel on the rear slider to the small notch on the back of the cab so the water can run out, it ran inside down the back of the cab and pooled up under the driver's side floor mat. My dealership here found the problem.

 

Hmm. so did you fix it or they did?
