Saw lots of replies to the postings of removing the charcoal filter on how it effects the mass airflow sensor by straightening the air going into it. Well, I decided to remove mine and found that to be false. There is a metal screen directly in front of the MAF that is designed to straighten the intake air before it hits the sensor. Removing the filter will not effect the sensor incase anyone was wondering.

I picked up 13.25752953 hp and shaved 2 sec off my 0-60. Gained 4 mpg as well. Seriously though, not even a slight difference, I pulled it out because it was caked with mud.

Gadget already checked dyno numbers with the charcoal filter in, out....with an air filter/without....without any of those, with all of those.

Conclusion was.....factory bends/kinks are the downfall of the intake system, not any silly little filters.

Iirc he checked for turbulence and flow also......he used the same device to check for induced maf errors when he tried several different locations on where to mount the maf sensor on the prototype urd intake.

    He does his homework

Charcoal is normally used in filters for odor reduction. I do not understand its use for engine combustion air.

I didn't do it for the power. I did it to answer a myth and to get some obstruction out of my intake. If anything I did it for efficiency. Did notice a slightly throatier intake noise at wot.

It's an emissions thing. After you shut off the motor it is supposed to prevent fumes from coming out of the intake. I blame California:rolleyes:

Thanks, now that makes sense. And it really bothers me that it makes sense to me now. Years ago people would have laughed and said for you to worry more about the chili you had for dinner last night.
