Yeah I could just as easily make one for a '13.... Just have to start with a 2013 dash kit that's all....process is the same

    sweet.

would the process be the same for a slightly different tablet? I have been looking at the Nexus more and more because of price, and I think it does almost everything I want: Sony AppRemote, OBDII w/ Torque, BackcountryNavigator, etc...

Does the OBDII connect via bluetooth or is it USB? If it is USB how does that work with using USB for audio.

Probably be more for the '13 because the dash kit is twice as much. HAHA. Would you be able to match the gloss paint?

Typically they are BT for Android and WiFi for iOS.
The USB dongles would do exactly that - restrict you from using USB audio.

I don't really have one I recommend, however I went on Amazon earlier this week and ordered a cheap $20 one. It had good reviews and claimed android compatibility. If you want to blow the cash on a high performance one you can get a ScanTool MX I think its called for $140 but in my opinion its just not worth it.

The cheap units should offer the same features, but refresh interval being too low is the main complaint with most of these. especially when monitoring multiple gauges or metrics simultaneously.

not a bad option if you only want a few gauges, or don't need very fast updates

EDIT... I will most likely go with that one ^^^ or something similar - there are lots of options to consider for the ELM 327

I can do this for any tablet but I need the tablet to make the fiberglass tray.....I could probably find a dummy nexus 7 on eBay but that's going to bump the price up a little (+/- $20) and however much more the dash kit costs......but yeah I can do any tablet! Lots of progress going on as we speak! Video will be done tonight or tomorrow!!!!! And for the paint matching I won't be painting anything on my new design.....its titties

OK soooo there are NO I repeat NO nexus 7 dummies on eBay so keep your eyes open for one if you want a dash made or you would have to send me yours which would suck if it got damaged in shipping......

watching the video now .. looks awesome!

I like the idea of a rubber trim piece .. maybe one that is wide enough to grip the edge of the iPad a bit for some friction in addition to the magnets (for off roading)

Would you be willing to sell a DIY kit? Maybe a finished dash piece and iPad tray, but unassembled and no felt or lightning connector?
