hey guys, i just brought home an 07 taco sr5 v6. the dealership let me test drive it overnight! anyway opened the hood and theres a loud "enough" ticking from both top sides of the motor, i did a search and found "everyone" has the same problem. i took a quick video cuz i want to be sure this is normal... i have friends who work at the dealer, but theyre also on commision so u never know what kinda bs u get. plz lemme know if this is serious or common. keep in mind the mic amplifies the sounds. i didnt hear anything until i opened the hood.

    thx guys!
    heres the video

I have a tick on my 2012 but not near that loud. can't hardly hear it. I'd say there is something not right. maybe needs valve adjustment if it can be done on the 4.0

No adjustment, it would involve what they call lifter measurement and replacement with the proper thickness...

Hard to tell if the recording is exaggerating the noise at all. My 2012 sounds pretty close to that though.

Recordings are almost always misleading, the camera does weird things and amplify's some noise and muffles others. If you are really in doubt why not take it to an independent mechanic shop and get it checked before buying?

All engines with out zero clearance hydraulic lifters/followers will have valve noise.

Good idea, if OP is worried.

OP if you do decide to get it and the noise bothers you run premium gas or non ethanol gas. I personally ran premium in min and hardly hear any ticking in or outside my truck.

Valve tick and engine pinging are different.
Pinging may be affected by fuel types.

I have a 2011 and mine tics almost like that but its not as heavy sounding. its lighter and just sounds like a bunch of loud clocks.

When I bought mine it sounded just like the video, but after a few full ups it went away. Just my experience.

Edit: I say went away, but you can still hear it if you open the hood and put your ear up to it. I guess died down would be a better way of putting it.
