Hey guys, I have a 09 trd double cab and I was curious on how to use the locking differential? What mode do I use it in meanin 2wd or 4wd? And in what type of application would I use it for.

    Thanks guys

Its almost like Toyota should write this stuff down in a book that comes with the truck...some kind of owners manual....

Or they could put a sticker on the door...or maybe the sun visor...

This is supposed to be next to you, on the door:

Now, for a straight answer in one TW'ers own words:

Only use the locker as a last resort to get unstuck or climb an obstacle IF being in Low Range and the A-TRAC (turned on) fails to do it (that would be something).

In L4, Low Range 4WD , while stopped, press the RR Diff Lock button... and the creep forward ... if the light (with the x over the diff) doesn't stop blinking and go solid then turn the steering wheel to one side and creep forward... that usually does it.

Operate the button while stopped or creeping slowly. Once locked TOYOTA recommends you don't go over 5 mph for safety reasons (a locked differential makes steering difficult)... Phyically you can drive any speed with it locked, but shouldn't, as there is no need to risk a crash (not easy to steer around something that jumps in front of you)!

There are PLENTY of situations where traction control is too ballistic and I go straight to the locker for control purposes. Last resort my buttocks.

    You said buttocks.
I agree. The locker anytime mod is a great thing to have. All the traction control features on these trucks really freak out at just the slightest thing.

They're nice to have, since they have essentially no drawbacks. I'm not a fan of mucking with relays, so I defer on the locker anytime mod. Anytime I need it I should be in Lo anyway, with the possible exception of sand, and I don't see much sand.
