Have you guys notice on your truck what looks like extra paint on the lower portion of the door. You can see in the pictures what looks like to be a color difference. When looking at it real close you can see where they tried to blend it in but didn't do that good of a job.

Mine is an 05 PreRunner TRD Sport if it matters.

Just wondering if everyones is like that.

This pictures are big but I left them that way on purpose so you could see what I am talking about.

    A few bolts are different.
I've heard it call "orange peel" paint, its supposed to help prevent rock chips

Yeah I'm not complaining, actually think it is a pretty good ideal, just never seen it on any other vehicle before.

Yeah the fenders are different then the body shine to. I can't really tell on my SW but I can tell on the other colored trucks. Doesn't look bad or anything.

    Too few to list.
I've only seen those on Toyota. Just the SUV's and trucks though. I had a Silverado, it didn't have those on a 2003.

My teacher pointed that out to me the other day when I was doing an alignment. Said it was common with the Jap stuff. If you have front mudflaps that will protect the bottom side the best. Once you get bigger tires and take flaps off "prone to being not flexible enough and messing up body if broken off" then that bottom part will take a beating.

Rock chip paint or chipguard. Whichever term you prefer. Be glad it's there. The factory was thinking when they built our trucks for longevity not show car looks.

My 1987 Ranger had it as well... believe me, it holds up!!! That truck is now 22 years old with over 230k miles on it and very few rocks made it through that ORIGINAL paint :)

I'm considering throwing some 3M tape on that area on my truck as an added barrier against rock chips since my mud flaps are off now.

Yea, I like it. Hell TBH I almost wish the entire truck was covered in it.

Yeah... this is nothing new. My first car - a 1976 VW Rabbit - had it!

Toyota got bombarded with lawsuits in 2005 for the first few 2nd gen's paint job falling apart in that area. This is the reason for the extra layer(s). They also tried to fix this by implementing the ridiculously gargantuan sized front mud flaps. You can actually take them off and use them as boat paddles or skateboard ramps. You can save 5 mpg. by cutting them down or taking them completely off.

Funny the factory doesn't give a crap about the rest of the paint job. My truck gets a scratch or chip in other areas if I sneeze to close to it...

Yeah I noticed that on my SW 09 the other day when I was washing it...pretty cool idea. WW you are right, on the SW you can hardly tell it is there. Good idea though, especially since I de mud flapped my truck right after I got it!
