I do not consider myself one of those strict environmentalists but I do recycle everything that are recyclable. I recycle all of my old engine oil by dumping them at the local recycling center.

Crazy as this may sound, I've read some horror stealership oil change stories so I decided to change the engine oil on my new Taco at 2865 miles by myself. Replaced it with Mobil1 + Toyota oil filter. Too early and a waste of my moolah?

I'm pretty sure 99% of us recycle our oil...at least I hope so.

I wait till I see the closest puddle pirate then I dump it in the ocean, yell it was BP not me, then run like hell....

Ok, I would NEVER do that but my dads a former "Coastie" and we're always flippin each other crap and calling him a puddle pirate always gets me the 1 finger salute. :D

At my household, we recycle everything that can go in the big blue recycle bin. They even take pizza boxes now. Everything oil related gets dumped in 5gal buckets. When I get 1 that's full I drop it off at a local shop that heats their shop with one of those furnaces that burns recycled oils. When I used to drive my diesel pickup a lot I would have a full bucket every few months. Toyota will be changing the oil in my new Taco and I hardly ever drive my SuperDuty so I doubt I'll see a full bucket but maybe once a year at the most.

Take it to Autozone and dump it into their sump.

3000 miles was a bit early, but not a waste of money.
    I change mine with M1 every 5k.

But you should not be running Extended Performance 5w30 in your 2013.
That truck takes 5w20 or 0w20, and there's no reason to run Extended Performance. You have to change at 5k anyways for warranty reasons.

I take mine to the local PEP BOYS. They take up to 5 gallons / free. They burn it for fuel to heat the shop.

I used to put my old Mobil 1 in my beater Honda that burned oil instead of buying new just to be burned. :D Recycling at its finest.

    Thanks, Rich91710!

My taco is a V6 so I thought I go with 5W 30 as recommended. You see, I am clueless when it comes to engine oils. Question: What's the difference between regular mobil1 and Mobil1 extended performance? If I need to change it, I'll change it right away. Thanks in advance.

Didn't realize you had the V6.

5w30 will be fine for that. You might get a touch better mileage with 5w20, but not significantly better. Go with the owner's manual recommendation.

The M1 EP is "guaranteed" to go 15k between changes, but Mobil also says to change at the factory intervals while under warranty , so spending extra on the EP is a waste.

    :eek::eek::eek::eek: I hope not! LOL.. :D!

I knew this dude who'd poured old engine oils down the toilet and I was ! We got into a heated argument about how he was polluting the environment and he looked at me and calmly said "Fawk you!" I do hope we the 1% cares about their children/grandchildren enough to recycle oils and other stuffs ;).

I would have let the engine break in a little more before going synthetic. 20,000 is where I would have changed over. And I agree, do not buy the Extended, regular Mobil 1 will do great. JMHO

    Not a big deal anymore.
It's more about the engine than the oil when it comes to break-in.
There used to be a time when your rings would never seat if you broke in with detergent oil.

With modern engine tolerances and design, many engines (including the 2.7 Tacoma) ship with synthetic from the factory.
