I just ordered the Cobra 29 LX BT. I'm just waiting for it to ship. Like so many other CB enthusiasts driving a taco, finding the right location for the radio is tough. I'm leaning towards the glove box but I'm open to suggestions, especially if you can give some advice concerning a mount where the roof console/sunglass hut is located.

Not sure of the size of the radio you ordered but if it's close to the same size as the Uniden 520xl then you could mount it in the center console. There's a few of us on here that did this.

You need an external speaker with this set up though unless you want to cruise around with your console open.

I'll definitely install an external speaker at some point no matter where the radio goes. The dimensions on the Cobra 29 LX are: 9.25 x 7.25 x 2.25. Will that fit where you placed the Uniden?

That's a full size radio and finding a decent spot is tough. I like to have mine nearby where I can reach it. I got a double CB bracket and mounted it off the back of the center console....

This bracket is exactly wide enough to fit although you will have some holes in your center console.

Here is another more recent pic after I installed my speakers....

I just saw you have an access cab so I'm not sure what the console looks like or if this mounting spot will work.

The access cab does have the same cup holder, and that mod would probably work, but things would get tight back there.

Somewhere on here is a pic of a member who cut a slot where the cup holders are and installed the radio there. If you don't mind hacking your center console and loosing the cup holders.

The ideal place for a CB is in the cubby under the AC/Heat controls; but an install there requires the face of the radio to be detached. Has anyone detached the face of a Cobra 29 LX before?

I've seen plenty of Cobra 29's done like that but never an LX. Seeing as how it's a digital display it could be a little tricky, I don't know. You could always open the case and have a look, but you run the risk of ruining a brand new radio.

bump. OP where did you mount it? i’m looking to get the same CB, i really like all the figures it has even tho it is on the pricy side. i was thinking inside the center console, or (on the auto trans) the cubby in front of the front cub holders. also thought about the passenger side of the shifter. but that may not be a good place in a wreck or comfy for the passenger on long trips.

I think you may be under estimating the size of this radio. Here are the dimesions: 7-1/4 x 2-1/4 x 8-5/8

That's just what I copied from a website. My point is that the spots you have mapped out are going to be tough seeing as how it's a full sized radio. It doesn't seem that big until you get it in your hands and start trying to figure out mounting locations.

Well, my radio is a monster but there is still plenty of room in the back seat. Nobody can really sit in the middle though.

I mounted the LX 29 to the roof. Front of the radio stops just before the sunglass holder. I mounted everything to the bracket that holds up the map lights/sunglass/tissue dispenser. Came out pretty damn good if I don't say so myself. I'd post a pic if the truck weren't in the body shop as we speak. I smashed into a RAV 4 yesterday at an intersection. Totally the other motorists fault. She tried to make a left hand turn at an unsafe distance. Nothing I could do to avoid her fender. Go Toyota! I'll post pics of the CB once I get my taco back. I hate my rental.
