Question about leveling kit?

hey guys, new to the forum... so just got a 07 trd, the guy has 265/75/16 on it. like them, but they rub just a little bit (mud flaps are off) plan on doing some off-roading, so this may be a problem?

My question is with leveling kit, (putting 5100's in the front) fix this for me? ... Think i read somewhere to set them at 1.75, or 0.75; which would be correct??

Any input appreciated, new here, just learning bout my truck.. also not sure if this is the best way to go about asking questions on here... thanks

 

Do you have aftermarket wheels with lower offset and backspacing?

With stock wheels, most 265/75/16, even the more aggressive AT's do not rub with no lift.

If you can post specs for your wheels as it will be one of the factors in determining what needs to be done.

I had this discussion with someone on here a while ago, and he was changing from 5100's @ 0.75 to 1.75 with 265/75/16 as it still rubbed some. He had wheels with 4.5bs or so if I remember correctly.

 

ok... Yes they are aftermarket wheels... newbie at all this, how do I figure out my offset and backspacing??

A lift has nothing to do with the articulation/travel of the wheel unless you never offroad. The wheel still cycles the same just has more down force on it.



Are you concerned about the rubbing or mud flaps being removed?
Where is it rubbing?
The removed mud flaps will shoot debris onto your truck, but thats the same as on road with no flaps.

 

More concerned about the rubbing, think they will rub even more when there is more wheel travel, during off-roading?

I would put the mud flaps back on it possible? as stated above, got the truck as is, a couple weeks ago. ... they are just barley rubbing, on the fender, where it wraps under into the wheel well thanks

 

I had similar issue I think. I had to heat up that end piece of the flare pictured and bend it inward a bit so the tire clears. Did not have to cut anything. It does not rub under any conditions on pavement, full lock, reversing etc. I do not off road however.

2nd gen with stock suspension, no lift, 265/75/16 tires on 16x8, 4.5bs, 0 offset wheels.



If you want mudflaps, and can't make it work with OEM's, you can try Husky Liner mud guards. They are $30 for front and $30 for rear. They do not have that much of a bulge covering mounting bolts as OEM's do. May be enough to clear. It was not enough for me, but close. I since don't run front mud flaps, only rears.

 

ok cool, I'll have to try bending that little piece back.. looks like the same spot... not sure if the rubbing will pose a problem while off-road? Or if it is even enough to cause any damage?

This may be a dumb question, but can an alignment change backspacing and/or offset? or are those specific to the after market wheels? would an alignment help this problem at all?... thanks

 

answered my own question about offset and backspacing...just needed to do a little more reading! haha but thanks anyways...

So bottom line, leveling kit won't help me?? And pretty much I do a minor modifying, or deal with the minor rubbing? ... Or get some wheels with correct backspacing and offset? Or on my next set of tires go back to 265/70/16

My 265/75/16 Duratracs with 16x8 4.5bs wheels rubbed on the front mud flaps during full clock turns when I first got them. Removing the front mud flaps mostly fixed it but I still got a slight rub somewhere(never did locate exactly where it was rubbing) on very sporadic occasions. Hasn't rubbed since having my 3" lift on though.

If you go with 265/70/16 tires, you should not rub even with mud flaps on.

Leveling kit can help you, just don't know how high do you have to go. Maybe all the way to 1.75 with 5100's, but I don't know that, just guessing.

Stock OEM wheels on a 2nd gen have 5.5bs and 30mm offset. If you have let say 4.5bs instead of 5.5 your wheels will stick out of the wheel well more than stock. Therefore, once you turn your wheel it may interfere with fender flares etc in spots where it normally would not. If you go with a mild lift, eventually it should clear.

 

with my canadian tacoma with the leaf TSB being done the truck sits pretty much bang on level at the 1.75 setting
