Sounds like your in just about the same situation as me. Just save money and mod as you go. The deck plate is a great start, and some budget lighting is always nice too but if your only mudding spacers will do up front (not preloads , but top spacers) and add-a-leafs will do for just mudding. 33's definitely took a toll on my mpg's and my power isn't good on the interstate. And i have a 3.4 so yours would worse. But the main thing you can do is research and browse the site. Theres endless amounts of good info here and people willing to help.

A lift is simply an easy way to fit taller tires (for those who don't want to cut and weld to make things fit). So what I'm trying to say to you is:

    1. Pick what tire fits your driving situation the best FIRST
(what tread is best for your terrain? what height do you need for clearance?)

    2. THEN decide what lift you may need or IF you even need one.
    (in that order)

Remember, your tires are the only thing between you and the road. Don't pick tread pattern off of what "looks cool." Decide off of their intended function

    Good luck man

    You should know...
that angle bracket anchor point is not meant to be used for that purpose.
It serves better as a tie down anchor or lite load tow point.
The L bracket anchor point is not strong enough
to defend against leverage caused by a D ring twisting inside of that.
And should not be thought of, or referred to, as a qualified recovery point.

I would think it better, that...
if you intend to use that as a serious recovery point,
you might choose to change out to a solid hook w/safety latch.
They'll bolt right up to the underside, are stronger then what yer doing
and are safer for you and others. JMO

for D rings, the mounts need be thicker...

    Drings03_4d5ec80920090f937d8f8c460c9f576d6abda501.jpg

Can the D ring encapsulate both the anchor and the hook ?
I never checked that out when I had those, just curious

I had to take the passenger side hook off and get some shorter bolts. But you're right it isnt a very strong recovery point but it's the best i could do without a welder. I figured it was better than nothing if i ever need to be pulled out.

I prefer a 265/75/16 BFG KO. Seems to be a good all around size for the Tacoma.

Nice ride man, I was in the same boat year before last when i joined this site, if you hang around long enough the mods will come to you just mod in your price range but get the best you can afford i will tell you that though and I just put the billy and AAL lift on my truck i would stick with the 265 range for tires you will be stuffing 33s and straining the stock gears

How are you liking that lift? And yeah i agree after looking on here 33's are just too much. If you dont mind me asking, how much was the lift total? My main worry with an AAL is that my stock leafs are shot and i'm worried the AAL will settle over time

every coil and leaf settles over time. An AAL will only be a bandaid. You'll need new packs soon if not now anyways.

My leafs were worse than flat when i was on blocks. What i did was find a junked 1/2 ton (70's ford) and robbed the springs off of it, broke them apart and added 2 on to my yota leafs. They have held up well and gave me about 3-4" of lift and ride pretty nice. You might not find any for free like i did but if you look around you can get a decent deal. But if you have the money i would think that a procomp aal or new packs would be the better option.

I think 32's will fit without a lift, you should be fine putting those on with one though. You will lose power with any tire size increase, 32's wont affect it too much, but nonetheless they will still affect it.

with my V6, I had 28.3's stock, I'm now running 31's and that really took a chunk out of my power. I love the height and look the tires give me, but the 5 mpg decrease kills me.

im in high school too and when i first got my truck after i sold my chevelle (age 16) all i wanted to do was lift it. well low and behold 2 days before i was going to buy the lift i worked minimum wage for all year, i got in an accident and had to pay for it. late last year i also replaced my timing belt.

sounds like you don't have to worry much bout other stuff so if i were you i would just get a nice set of 16 inch steel wheels and some bfg km2 mud terrains . i think 16x8 wheels and 265/75/16 would be just fine. your truck will look good with that and better than if it were to only have a small lift in my opinion. just worry about driving safe and eventually you'll get everything done to your truck that you want to.

now i want to build a prerunner when i get a good job :D
