Foodie thread question... I came across "Kumatos" about a year ago. This is the best dang tomato I have ever eaten, then again, they are not "tomatoes" and that's probably why someone had the bright idea to change the name. Has anyone else ever tried these?

Sorry, I got a pic but photobucket is not cooperating right now, arghhhhhhh..

 I didn't like peppers as a kid as I thought they were all spicy and I don't really do spicy. Just getting a taste for them now.

It was yummy. Been trying to hit the veggies a little heavy lately, stir fry seemed to be a good option
little bit...in the original pic the carrots and peppers were the same color. I had to tweak it to make them stand apart a little. BUT...my kitchen window faces south so I have direct light onto my stove top now that the darkness of winter has passed.

never heard of them or seen them...had to look them up! interesting though...

I am going to do something once a month along the lines of something I really havent made before. Call it an experiment, this month is going to be home made baked beans with smoked slab bacon. I might try to get it done this weekend actually I will let you guys know how it is and I might try to bring it to the NJ meet if I go. And yes, there will be pics.

So, I finally got Tim (my go-to knife professional) out to the house to get my knives properly sharpened. Like three months late, they were terrible. Anyhow, he brings THIS over to show me. Please note, this is NOT my knife, and I would never ever EVER treat a good knife thusly. Check this out. Sorry the pics are huge, but small ones won't do it justice: [IMG] . [IMG] . [IMG] . Took him over an hour to fix and literally re-shape the front of the thing. Here's the finished product: [IMG] Anyhow, MY Shuns are proper sharp again and I'm a happy cook (I cut myself washing them three times FFS, there are surgical scalpels that aren't as sharp as my knives), and Tim does AWESOME work. If anyone wants his contact info, PM or email me. He's local to south Florida, but I'm positive he'll do mail work as well, and his prices are outstanding. He charged me $15 to come to my house and sharpen two knives, and I had to FORCE him to take a $5 tip. Does he know his shit? Put it to you this way...he's pictured with Murray Carter in his last book (http://www.amazon.com/Bladesmithing...&qid=1360773100&sr=8-1&keywords=murray+carter) and trained in Japan, and is probably one of the few guys on the east coast that uses Japanese quarry stones.

Those Shuns are nice. I had one but returned it because I prefer the good old meaty German knives. Had this one for over 20 years and has been through ALOT!...

Those really are the two schools of thought: The German Tank knives, the Henckels, Wusthofs, etc. Those fuckers will carve through a petrified tree if you take the time.

And then, Shuns and the like. Sharper, lighter, more flexible, but not as strong or as heavy.

One isn't better than the other, just very different.

    good lord.

i've been reading up on knives. bought some japanese waterstones to sharpen with. japanese knife guys are freaking insane. they kinda hate the german stuff. they hate the bolsters. i have wustof..and more recently picked up a 40 year old german blade from Gustav Emil Ern. what a lazer!! sharpest thing ever.

i love knives and will get a japanese Gyoto soon. nice shun. i like the german stuff..bomb proof.

Is this a good starter sushi knife? I make it several times a year.

    http://shun.kaiusaltd.com/knives/knife/wasabi-black-yanagiba

Also, I don't brag about a lot but I'm a sharpening pimp. Started sharpening knives in scouts about 22 years ago now, and I've never stopped. :D My hunting, pocket and kitchen knives stay sharp for sure, but I think it's time for a better sushi knife that will be hands off for the wife.
