Trimmed Mud Flaps

Trimed the front and rear flaps this morning. Turned out great!! I trimed the front ones 2". That wasn't enough, so one more inch. Still not enough. Decided to give it 9" of clearance from the ground. Gave the rear flaps 10" of clearance from the ground. Check the pics. Even the wife says it looks better now.

Trimed a bit off the rear flaps, I'd say approx 3/4" to get the 10" from ground to flap.

I'm 110% happy with this mod. Note, I did NOT remove the flaps from the truck. End result is the rear flaps are 1" higher than the front flaps; 9" front clearance, 10" rear clearance. I used 2 different grits of sand paper to work the edges and make it look like nothing ever happened. Sand paper did a great job cleaning up the edges. FYI, I did not use those red sheers for gardening. I used a pair of Swiss/wiss metal snips like what you use for commercial metal framing. And yes I used a Level and 2 vise grip clamps to make sure the cut line was perfect. I went around and measured everything, I'm within 1/16", not to shabby of tolerances.

What was total amount you cut off the front. 2+1+?.

Tool of cutting: Wiss Metal snips. You get these at Home Depot, for about $30. They are used by commercial metal framers; metal studs. That's why I have a set. They cut this stuff like butter while giving good control of the cut... and I had them in my tool box which was very convenient! Cost for this: $0. Time: 1.5hr for all 4.


Not sure what I cut off the front total. 2"+1" + IIRC 5/8". It now measures 9" from flap to ground on my stock TRD. What I can do is measure how long the flaps themselves are. so if you have a lifted or mod'd truck you can measure from the truck.

 

btw, great finish on that garage floor too!!!

 

LOL. I'm not used to fancy garage floors. I'm used to grease, oil etc. and having to de-grease it every 6 months with a deck brush and garden hose. but this house came with the floor finish done.

hey would u mind measuring the flaps them selves cause i have a lift and bigger tires.

 

Front- 7-1/2". Rear- 8-1/2". However the rear flaps are still 1" higher off the ground. This is being measured from the low point of the fender flare.

 

Yea, I am going to trim my front flaps soon too. They look too long anyway, and are brittle as hell.
