I mounted it to the bumper.

As per your request... The only place mine rubs is on the tail light. I'm fine with that.

 

Actually Rob, they have "trunk lid mount" type antennas which you can attach the same way on the hood on the drivers side. I had a setup like this and it worked VERY well my SWR match averaged 1.2-1.6 across the band. The only thing you have to alter is because of the angle of the mount on the hood, you have to bend the whip to vertical after installation,which doesn't affect performance at all. This requires a steel base load whip (you cannot bend a firestik)

If you go for a magnetic mount, go with Wilson Little Wil. It's perfect or trail rigs and if you are only going to use it while you are on the trials it's the way to go. It will be flexible enough to give if you run into any obstacles while you are out there. I have gone through 3 firestiks because when I go off road I always run into low obstacles and they end up breaking. That's the only downfall to the Firestiks...

 

that bumper mount looked haggard haha just make a mount that sticks out from the bed rail and your fine. all you need is a small piece of steel and a drill...

 

Well then go with what ever you like. Just do your research and if you need to make your own mount like rab89 said.
