I have been looking for a nice double cab Tacoma for a while and a guy came into my Dad's dealership with a trade-in that I am thinking of buying. It is an '03 double cab prerunner TRD package with the V6 and auto trans. He is the original owner and has put ~110k miles on it but it is absolutely beautiful inside and out. It has been maintained and has all the records, and just changed the water pump and timing belt at 94k.

I love everything about the truck (except the dash rattle which I will have to fix if I get it), but I just had some questions:

I have NEVER owned a car with over 100k miles. This is partly due to me working for Ford previously and only owning domestic. :) Am I pretty safe with a 110k mile V6/auto that was well maintained? Any inherent problems with the motor or tranny in these trucks? Is there anything specific I should look at/for before I purchase the truck?

If all goes well, I will have it in a day or two!!

Also, just out of curiosioty what do you all think is a decent price for a truck like this?
No rust anywhere (desert lived) & shiny paint w/o scratches or dents. It also has TRD exhaust, aftermarket wheels, nerf bars (side steps), and a fiberglass tonneau. I am paying what the dealer trade in price was plus the money to cover the tax savings of the trade in (+ $150 to make it worth his while).

I put 150k on my 89 with no major problems. I have family that has put over 450 k on theirs with normal wear and tear problems (had to change the motor at 300k). If the price is right I would say you have a winner.

150k on a toyota motor is nothing, go look for the How Many Miles on your v6 thread.

I ahve had 2 over 300k and my 98 is just about to hit 240k.

For me the only thing would be the lack of 4wd, but there are a lot of prerunners on here that have badass setups that can go almost anywhere a 4wd truck can.

If the price is right and you don't NEED 4wd, go get it.

Over 200k on my 98 3.4l no problems with the drivetrain. It might need some work however such as diff. fluid tranny fluid gaskets needing to be replaced. but that's all normal for that amount of miles. It also probably needs the injectors cleaned if it hasn't been done yet.

If you buy it right, a 100k vehicle is fine. I drove an old Infiniti for awhile, just know a few bucks stashed away to cover any unexpected repairs is wise. It's no t only got 110k on the clock, it's 10 or 11 years old too. It's good he did water pump and timing belt already, shows he maintained something that is more expensive than normal maintenance.

    .
It's probably a good buy if the truck was well maintained and it wasn't abused, I say go for it and hang out with us!

Yeah, I used to be a Mustang driver/modder so I am used to the forums and the effect they can have on a wallet. ;) I hadn't even finished buying the truck and I was already researching wheel spacers!!!

Watch those wheel spacers! They play havoc on the wheel bearings. That is one weak spot on the Tacoma.

Would even 1" or 1.25" cause me problems? The tires just look too tucked up inside the wheelwells. I just wanted a little wider stance.

3" Toytec spacers, Bilstein 5100s in the back with add a leaf and overloads removed.
    You need 12.50s then

I will let those who have actually used the spacers to chime in here, but I am always hearing from people who have ruined wheel bearings with using spacers. There are plenty of threads out here that talk about it. Do a general search and you might get the information you need on them.
