I have a pretty long commute to and from work and put a lot of miles on my truck during the week. That means I'm due for an oil change a lot sooner than I normally would be. Because of that I'm thinking of switching to a synthetic motor oil to lengthen the amount of time and get more miles out of each oil change. Does anyone have a particular brand they like to use? Or even a brand to stay away from? Thanks for the input!

I too drive highway miles daily (60), so I wanted to get a high quality oil that I will be able to have longer intervals with. I switched over to Amsoil SAE 5W-30 Signature Series 100% Synthetic Motor Oil. With this oil, it's recommended to change oil every 15,000 during harsh conditions and 25,000 during normal. Those seem too high, so I switch mine every 10,000 miles. I even noticed 2-3 MPG increase on highway after about 1,500 miles of it running through the engine.

Castrol Syntec 5w30. I change it every 5000miles. It might be soon for synthetic, but my driving is a lot of stop and go, short distance driving and towing my 5x8 enclosed traile 2-3 times a week, so my truck works harder then truck used for commute to and from work in mostly highway driving conditions.

I started using Amsoil Signature Series oil a year and a half ago. I can get it at the Napa Store in town for about $9.00 a quart. With any synthetic oil I've read that you should use the best quality filter you can find. Napa Platinum fit the bill there as far as I can tell from all the reading I've done. I had around 200,000 miles on my '97 Tacoma when I changed over. It appears that the truck has had excellent care taken of it, so I didn't use the flush that is recommended. I just change to Amsoil and started using the Platinum Filter. I've decided to change oil once a year as per manufacturers recommendation, with a filter change at 6 mo. The first year the oil looked fairly clean at 3 mo. or so and wasn't really bad looking at 6 mo. This is the second year and I was pretty shocked at how good the oil looked at the 6 mo. filter change. Still amber, just a little bit darker. As far as I know, Amsoil is the only synthetic oil that isn't made from Dino oil.
