Easy to remove, easy to put back together and it's sturdy as hell

a few more. I used 3/4" ply and attached threaded pipe and flanges so it breaks down easily. Mounted for small pieces of angle around to truck bed at the same height as the wheel well (7") so there is plenty support. It's also a two part system so Half of the platform can be removed if more space is needed.

Good stuff. I want to do that so I can put my surfboards underneath and let my dog roam up above (with a shell of course).

Can I ask what the reflective material is? Sound dampening material?

Finally got my setup built. It is a 3 piece design. The center section covers the coolers that are accessed by a pull out tray. The two side pieces rest on a 2x3 at the center section and on the bed lip at the outside edge. A small section of plywood is used up front underneath the built-in bed rail to keep the platform from bouncing up. At the tailgate side I have a bolt and wing nut attaching the side to the 2x3 support.

It takes about 5 minutes to install or remove and that includes putting in the padding.

It's insulation. I put it in so that my dog doesn't suffer to bad when we're out snowboarding.

If you were referring to my taco its an 09. I think I was right around 100 to 120 mark as far as price. I used cabinet grade 3/4 ply bc it wasn't too much more, then 20 for indoor outdoor grey carpet at home depot, 10 for glue, and a couple 2x8s and a 2x6 I think.. I ran a support down the middle. With the support method I used it still leaves the access below completely open.

I'll try to post pics this weekend

This is mine. It's 4 2x4's cut to the width of the bed and seated in the notches (2nd Gen), two pieces of 3/4" plywood with small corner cuts each on one corner (so it sits flush with the back portion of the bed), and one extra piece of 3/4" plywood across the tire wells for center support. Nothing bolted and I can remove it in a few minutes. When it's installed, I throw this outdoor camping rug on top, which fits perfectly. Although, it doesn't seem like it's in stock anymore...

Holy thread bump batman! But you just replied about sleeping platforms yesterday so  here I am!

I will probably want to use a smaller diameter pipe for mine, but I am not attached to that. Any input on doing this with a narrower pipe? I am not attached to one size specifically, so I'm happy to work with anything that will work.

How did y'all cut the PVC to size, hack saw, miter saw?

I used 1.5" for the bed but I have a friend that did one out of 3/4" on the inside of his land cruiser and it held him no problem. I used a chop saw on mine but if you're going with thinner pipe they have the ratcheting pvc cutters.

This place has all the oddball fittings (3 and 4 way) that the usual stores don't carry.

Cheers! I was thinking of 1" but I will look at the 3/4" when I get to the store. Mostly it'll be a hold it and see what I think it feels like and if it's thick enough or I need something with more girth.

    :spy:

I don't have a miter saw but I have a regular circular saw, but if I end up with the 3/4" or 1" I'll take a look at those cutters.

edit also found this on HD site: furniture grade PVC fittings too

You were installing this in the cab weren't you? I would think the 3/4 would work fine and the cutters work great on the smaller pipe.
