Im looking forward in getting a rear locker on my regular 2wd. Im hesitating in taking the elocker from a trd and getting it on my truck or getting an arb locker. Which solution is best.

more than likely, the elocker third wont fit your axle housing. so basically, u will have to go with an ARB or just get a whole rear axle from a TRD OR truck

ARB has got to be a less expensive and easier to do...............

I say just weld up the rear!!! much cheaper & quicker.

As wrmathis said, to run the e-locker you would have to take an entire rear end out from under a TRD offroad and bolt it to your Tacoma. We just have different sized rear ends and the actuator is external so there is no where to mount the actuator to your rear end. An ARB locker would be much cheaper I'm sure. And as Fireturk41 said, a loc rite is cheaper yet, although not select-able. I wouldn't weld the diff or go full spool for a daily driver:rolleyes:

Detroit locker over a lockrite in my opinion but ARB being the ultimate choice :cookiemonster:

The switch for locker and then possibly ground some things on the actuator to trick it into thinking it is hooked up to the ECU and that you are in 4Lo or whatever other restrictions there are on the Prerunners. I imagine the wiring would be the easier part of the whole install process. haha

I don't think there would be any effect. Since his didn't come factory with the E-locker, the ECU would likely freak out if you tried to wire it into the ECU. I have the factory E-Locker and the ECU only lets you engage the locker when you are in 4Lo, so like many others out there, I did the locker mod to bypass the ECU and I can now engage my locker in 2wd, 4Hi and 4Lo. No harm done, so lock as you do it right. Do it wrong and you pop a fuse is all.

Or you can go to marlincrawler.com and get a elocker wire harness Retro fit kit thingy and make everything simple if going that route :cookiemonster:

If I were to go a selectable locker route I would go with the ARB and keep the 8.4 third. Seems that the additional truss is a stronger option then what the elocker offers..
