How does typing "AF" in a sentence translate to "as fuck"? I don't understand that one at all. Must be for little kids that can't cuss around mommy.

    I am tired AF.

    My breaks don't work right.

I can't count the number of times I've seen the incorrect use of brakes/breaks.

Oxford also now recognizes the improper use of the term "literally."
Just because the dictionary recognizes it does not mean it is the proper formal usage.

"Ain't" is recognized by Webster, but you shouldn't oughta' say it.

In all honesty, TW is by far one of the better forums I've been a part of with regards to the general level of education among its members.

...most likely because TW doesn't cater to ricers. Some of those kids are so stupid I'm amazed they remember to breathe.

Very true, although the best I've seen yet as far as automotive forums go has been norotors.com. I think the population over there is about 99% engineers.

I can actually believe this. I have a friend that went to a prep school in Rhode Island for high school. They had a strict curriculum and you lived on campus like college. They spend tons more hours at school than I did in high school. Now he is a senior in mechanical engineering and never has to study long hours to get A's because they trained him how to absorb the root of the info and cut through all the bullshit. He can remember stuff that I would have to be told 5 times because he knows what info to select to remember. I never learned that in high school. We learned who was pregnant, who had weed, which teacher was banging which student.

Actually, it is a point of style, as in professional style guides for publishing.

AP (Associated Press) does not use the serial comma (the last one before "and"). This is what jouralists use for newspapares and magazines, largely because inches (space) matters in these types of publications. They need to save sapce to make articles fit, and they'd rather sell space for ads. And journalism is written to a low level of literacy for the masses, with simple, short sentences (and, often, a lack of facts) that don't require the extra clarity and precision the serial comma can provide.

University of Chicago Manual of Style is used by book publishers and uses the serial comma (as do various other journal style guides and anyone interested in precision). In long, complexly structured sentences, and especially technical writing, the serial comma can be critical for clear meaning.
