About to get my TOB issue serviced for the 3rd time. First time was at 36k miles, second time at 51k miles (both under warranty), now I'm at 110k and the chirping is back. Hoping I caught it early enough that only the release bearing will need to be replaced and not the pilot shaft too (which basically means a new transmission)...

Has anyone had any experience with this TOB mod?: http://urdusa.com/Clutch-and-Flywhee...duct_info.html

Looks pretty solid, but I'm curious if anyone has any feedback on it. I've had enough of Toyota stock parts---time for some quality shit.

Also, I'm looking to get a new clutch along with the TOB, and was wondering what yall might recommend. Stock clutch is garbage..I would like something more durable. I don't do a whole lot of towing or off-roading, so I don't really need a stage 3. Any recommendations?

That kit seems like a real fix. It's what I want to get if/when I end up with the chirp. I mean, the whole problem is that the shaft is aluminum.

I haven't heard anything negative about it, but I'd like to hear from some members who have it installed.

The problem with the Toyota clutch design is that it doesn't have a preload spring. This is a small spring that keeps pressure on the TOB when the clutch is engaged. As it is the TOB bearing is basically rattling and slipping and wearing out quickly. My 911, Jaguar X Type, Volvo and F150 had such a spring and no problem and my Alfa Spider doesn't and it makes the same noise as the Tacoma. Just replacing the TOB parts is insanity (doing the same thing and hoping for a different result). I emailed URD and they came back with their kit and I don't think they understand the problem. Maybe a better TOB will help, but it's not the solution. I'm going to try modifying my clutch this summer.

I installed one in my 06 just before Christmas. The truck had 115,500 miles on it at the time. Chirp started long before that. I now have a little over 118,000 and its been fine. Not that it needed it but i replaced the clutch as well while I was there and also the URD short throw kit. Release bearing and short throw are both high quality.

Haven't used this myself, but they are a few threads here of people who have and they all love it. Solves the chirp completely If I remember correctly.

    Solid part/fix!

I did this back at 29,000 on my 05 Tacoma, chirp is still gone and I'm sittin at 63,000. I also got a stage 3 Competition Clutch clutch from URD with the lightweight fly wheel; two issues an awful chatter sound when in neutral (so bad I usually have the clutch pressed while stopped specially in drive thrus and what not), also my truck is stock besides intake and exhaust so there just isn't enough power for the clutch. It's never caused any issues hauling or anything but if I could go back I would get a less aggressive clutch.

URD TOB repair kit def fixed the chirp tho.

so far, URD throwout bearing kit(sleeve), weathertechs, 285/70/17's on Ion 17x9 and OME 885s and Dakars and nitro sports. BHLM
Definetly get the urd kit if your gonna tear it down. I had the chirp when I bought my truck at 108,000 and put the urd tob kit in and another stock clutch (mistake) and haven't had any problems since. Of course I'm only at 115k but others have many miles on their urd parts and still holding up. To me the clutch feels smoother with the steel sleeve.

I used to have a 2005 XRunner. The TO bearing squeaked since the day I bought it in 2007. I ended up doing this mod when I changed the clutch out at 60k miles. Well worth the time and money spent. The feel was better, and no noise whatsoever.

Installed the URD kit, fixed chirping noise. Installed factory clutch at the same time.

I went with the competition clutch and lightweight flywheel I think from URD.

Stock clutch just doesn't have the holding power of say the URD stage 2 or 3. There has been a few times when pulling a heavy trailer and having to get on it that the clutch slipped after shifting from say 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th. Not often, but I wish I had order the stage 2 from URD. Back when I had my 94 3.0 I was told when ordering brakes or clutches to go back with Toyota stuff because it was better material, and I did, and that truck now has 302k miles on it with about 175k on the 2nd toyota clutch. Thats why I went back with stock on my 05. I'm also pretty sure Toyota's not making the same tough truck they did back then.

Hate to dig this back up, but what did you end up doing? What were your results? Can anyone tell me the new part numbers for the tsb. I can only find the slave and the pivot ball. Can't find the fork # thanks in advance.

My truck now has 166,000 miles, 51,000 miles since I installed the URD kit. No complaints here.

Thank you for the fast response. What all did you install? Tsb parts? Urd kit? New clutch?

Seems to be a good idea. Had a friend try it with 3 different springs and with about 10k it returned. I'm leanings towards the tsb parts, urd sleeve and a new clutch(Wichneedstobedoneanyway) looking for what combos have had the best outcome.
