This is exactly what my problem is, I could see the base of the lug stud has been damaged over time from the rotor shifting/knocking in both directions (fwd and reverse). I have not replaced them since I've owned this particular truck ( just bought it in Feb. the service from the previous owner said they'd been changed at their "trusted" mechanic. I'd like to believe its a good mechanic seeing that the family lived in Blackhawk, one if the wealthiest communities in the SF Bay Area.

Ill prolly be switching them out myself sometime soon. The pads are the stock replacement and I've always bee attached to Hawk pads. Ill prolly switch rotors and find the right size ones then.

I've seen the gap between rotors and lug holes, on my BMW, but the rotors had an additional hole that you seated a hex key bolt to secure the rotor. This was designed because BMW uses the lug bolts rather than stud/nuts.

Fot those of you that hear the noise after backing up, it's your rear brake adjusters doing it's job.

I refuse to believe there is an intentional design that involves the brakes making a loud "clunk".

What may sound like a loud clunk to some may be just a click, like wht the brake adjusters do. But yes, if it is truly a loud clunk, it's not the adjusters.

It was finally time for me to get new pads. I replaced them and the clunk is gone! Yay! For once, one of my Toyota problems was easily solved.

Next time I start hearing the clunk, I'm changing the pads right away.
