Painting Wheels

I am going to be painting my wheels this weekend and I wanted to know if I take of the weights for balancing the wheel can I put them back on myself or do I need to get the tires re-balanced? Or should I say what the hell and paint them with the tires? Thanks for whatever info you can share.

 

If you paint them with the rims- When the time comes to change the rubbers you'll have to re paint the run or at least touch up where the weights were on the old set. You'll also have scrapes from the weights being removed and installed.

You can get the tires Satic Balanced and have them place weights ONLY on the inside lip of the rim or use sticky weights or a product like EQUAL to aviod using lip weights at all.

I painted mine yesterday. Came out super good. I love them. I say do it.

nah, not really, but then, I have had mine painted with hammered finish for months...needs some touching up, but it was cheaper than new rims.

 

get the weights put on the inside of the rim next time

 

same here. I used rustoleum primer. 3 coats. Then 3 coats of rustoleum flat black wheel paint.

 

Ok here are some pictures of my painted wheels. They came out a little shiny cuz I painted them satin black. If I had to do it again, I think I would go with a flat black.

All in all I like the way they came out. Thanks to everyone for their input and info.

 

looks good. If you didnt spray clearcoat on there you could always do a couple coats of flat black.

 

Damn... I want to do mine, but it's a lease... would that matter?

 

I did 2 coats of clear coat, that's another reason why they are shiny.

Also not sure about the lease, I know my brother did all kinds of upgrades to his Tundra and they didn't really care. Best to check.
