I've been logging my mileage on Fuelly .com religiously for the past year and a half and currently am averaging 20.2mph. Until 2 weeks ago, I consistently drove my L4 Automatic Access Cab 7-9mph over the speed limit wherever I drove. My commute to work is mostly hwy miles with a posted speed limit of 65mph so I usually drove 72-74mph. Some days, traffic would be light and I would find myself keeping up with everyone else at around 80mph.
On a whim, I decided to see if obeying the posted limits would make a difference in my fuel consumption. The first week, I noticed an improvement to 21.1mph but there was one day when I was running late for work and had to speed in order to arrive on time. This past week, my mileage jumped up to 22.5mph! That's over 2mph better than my average and 40 more miles I can drive on a tank of gas.
It was a bitch watching everyone else passing me at first, but I'm now finding my commute to be more relaxing, no more constantly checking the mirrors for police cruisers or cursing the assholes who were driving slow in the fast lane. I'll continue this test for a few more weeks to see if the results remain the same. If so, I think my speeding days are over.

Your commute plays a big part. Some people will never see higher than 20 mpg because they sit in rush hour traffic and wait at red lights every day. 80% of my driving is 45 mph to work about 15 miles away, and I probably stop at 2 or 3 red lights. I take off pretty quickly alot of the time, but I'm getting 21 mpg every tank. I don't go to work during rush hour in the morning or afternoon.

You guys haven't told him about the magnetic gas-line mpg improver???
    Or the 100mpg carburetor???
    Or the special-sauce fuel additive???
The best one I have found is to drive exclusively from Vail to Denver ;)

The dual vvti was not in the 4runners until 2009, I believe they do have the same engines.

I had to re-read this thread when I saw the neg rep OP left me. lol I was apparently "mean" in my last reply when I correctly assumed if his third post was that angry, the 5th would be the "Goodbye!" post. Turns out I was wrong, he only made it to 4. So angry! Yikes.

Oh someone got a little bent out of shape for no reason. If you already knew the answers then why did you have to ask? There is no reason for name calling. If you would have searched then you would have known everything that we & you(apparently) already knew. You should take everything with a grain of salt to when it comes to the internet. Not everyone is going to be nice. Not everyone is going to be pleasant. With you assuming and calling people names isn't going to get you anywhere, especially on this board. There is no reason to treat other people like shit because you didn't get the answers you were looking for. You calling people names as a rebuttal brings down your maturity as well. So before you go and make assumptions and call people names. You should look in your own backyard then shitting in others first. And also, think about the things that you said, would you go up to the persons face and say that? I highly doubt it. You could be the bigger person and leave quietly. But you chose to be no better(in your eyes) to the posters who weren't giving you the answers you were seeking.

If you feel that you can find more, better information then here, by all means. But if you continue to act towards people like you did in this post, no one is going to help you. Just remember that.
