Seeing how there were multiple rounds that went through the rear glass, I think it's more luck of dodging. :infantry:

Was this understood as part of your employment or is it something new? If it was part of the employment agreement then you will just have to suck it up as it was an already known danger. If it was not part of your agreement for employment then stand up for yourself.

You said they were paying a vehicle allowance?
How are they paying you this allowance per mile?
or just XXX $ per month?

They have added a project that requires more usage they should pay more for the increase.

If this was a add on for your job, what you are suggesting is you are going to have to pay them for you to work, which is BS.

    Man Up!

You would have to pay the taxes and everything on the new vehicle regardless.

Really not much of a savings on gas when you break it down. I bought an older car(88' Buick Century) for $600 that gets roughly 30mpg. I have put another $400 in to it so far with taxes and all, plus some repairs. If I drive this car for a year vs my Tacoma, it will pay for it self, and after that is all savings. Plus it's nice to have a second vehicle for when you are doing mods, you can be mobile when your truck isn't. Keep the truck.

You all raise some very good points. I wouldn't get a Prius and most likely would get something that got 30-35 mpg and I'm getting about 19 now. I had already figured it would take 3+ years before I would break even. What I hadn't thought about ( it just occurred to me) is that there aren't many vehicles out there that hold their value as well as the Tacoma so when it comes time to trade it in 5 years down the road the advantage may be with the Tacoma. Besides what other type of car is going to have such a helpful group of guys to refer to for help in these situations? Thanks everyone, I think I'll hold on to her.

That's good thinking. Do you have to haul a lot of stuff for the job? Not necessarily tools n' stuff, but documentation/papers, etc? Put a locking hard tonneau on it, haul all that in the bed and leave the cab clean n' comfy.

My wife and I bought a Scion IQ to replace her older Rav4 with 180K miles (she gave that car to her son). We use it to carpool back and forth to work. I live about 38 miles from work. It was cheap enough new that we are pretty close to break even and she gets a new car.
I figured @$4/gal. The car gets about 40mpg and costs $!6K new.

My truck gets about 16 mpg. $4750/year at $4. $1900 with the IQ. It saves us about $2870 in gas money or $239/month. The car cost about $260/month. So for $21/month she gets a new car. Plus, I keep the miles lower on the Tacoma. If gas prices go higher, then it saves even more.

We thought about a Prius C but the ones on the lot were about $8K more than this car. It would only save about $400 per year over the IQ so that's a long payback. My wife loves the IQ. That car can turn on a dime. I can flip a u-turn on a 2-lane road without leaving the road.

Keep your taco and talk to your employer about giving you fuel allowance in addition to your vehicle allowance. Doesn't see right they require you to use your vehicle and not pay for your fuel.

Keep the truck and buy a cheap Honda civic or corolla. You do not want wear and tear on a new vehicle regardless, especially work related if they will not pay.
