Getting ready to do my own 60k maintenance on my 05 Trd sport. Had the 30k done at the Dealership and when I reviewed my work order they charged me about $300 in labor. My question is do they sell the gear oil with LSD additives already mixed in? If not those of you with the TRD sports what brand and how much of it did you used? Also what is the torque specs for both the fill and and drain plugs. The oil change, spark plug and the cabin filter I'm not to worried about.

Pretty much everything you need to know: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/24545-changing-differential-fluid-step-step-how.html

I used Valvoline conventional gear oil in the rear with 4 oz of LSD additive from Autozone. I used Mobil 1 synthetic in the transfer case and front differential.

Something around 3+ quarts for the rear, basically until it starts to come out the top plug.

And a bottle pump makes getting the oil in easier, a lot of pump pushes required though. Everyone has their own method.

Gear oils do not come with the additive in them, they just may say on the bottle they are approved for limited split differentials, but still need the additive as well.

I've been using Valvoline gear oil, didn't even bother asking the dealership for the price of their oil.

I just don't want to deal with the chatter if something goes sour after the replacement. Sometime I wish I didn't have the LSD seem much more complicated.

Here you go this is super easy. Highly recommend doing this yourself. When doing the Gear oil change in the rear just add 1 Quart then add your 4oz of LSD Additive. You'll wanna go into a parking lot and do a couple figure 8's in forward and backwards this will help mix the Additive to the Gear Oil i had no problems what so ever.

    I USED AMSOIL :D

    6 QUARTS TOTAL
    3 quarts 75W-90 (1.6 front, 1.1 transfer case)
3 qts 75W-90 weight gear oil for Rear Diff
4oz. tube of LSD additive FOR REAR DIFFERENTIAL

24mm SOCKET SIX POINT ONLY (Transfer Case)
The fill and drain plugs both torque to 27lb-ft

    10mm HEX SOCKET (Front Diff)
The fill plug torques to 29lb-ft and the drain torques to 48 lb-ft

24mm SOCKET SIX POINT ONLY (Rear Diff)
The fill plug, and drain plug torque spec 36 ft- lbs

Nope, have Lucas now, after failing to get Synthetics to work. So far... 0 problems in last couple thousand miles. LSD still works as proven in recent winter :D

I put 85-140 since i tend to tow. Did not put any extra additive because I think oil has it plus previous oil had tons of additive to the point LSD did not work anymore.

My manual says to use 90wt gear oil. I can't seem to find any. Should I use 75-90 or 80-90?

I changed my rear diff oil last week and used OEM oil.....it's all I ever used for my 2007. If you use the OEM, no additive required.

Just don't use synthetic in the mechanical LSD, they don't like it and it will chatter like crazy. For the rear I use 80-90 Dino and a 4oz bottle of champion LSD additive that I get at oreilly. I'll take a picture of the additive when i get home so you can see what the bottle looks like. Use 75-90 in the front diff and transfer case. Oh and always remove the fill plug first.
